Who thinks Barkley could have been QBOF

Watching Matt Barkley play for a horrible team and putting up monster numbers is infuriating. He was good in college and he is throwing in bad conditions and with WRs that lead the league in drops. And yet he almost has beaten some really good teams and his stats are really good. He would have been a major improvement over Stanton. But remember Arians and his loyalty....another boneheaded move it looks like.

Well if he is that good shouldn't be too big a problem to sign him this offseason.

Im with it, I said it before the season started. At least Barkley has a fighters chance of being a good starting qb. Stanton is an expensive backup and a complete loose cannon who cannot be trusted and we are all certain will never be a capable starter.

The answer is very simple "Not in BA's system" that is all

And for the record I think he is better than Stanton and has. Ore upside, and would rather have kept him over Stanton as the backup. But their was clearly a disconnect between Barkley and BA

Maybe Cards_Campos should ask his many Facebook friends their opinion.

Can someone ban this guy

See moderators this is what I deal with by stating an opinion. Trying to root for a team with fans like this is what even makes it more infuriating. Nothing about the post even though the guy has posted 2 300 yard games with a JV team. And has some outlets thinking he is a very good QB. I get this as response. SMH. And you wonder why I go off.

I told my buddy at the stadium when we were watching the Bears game that this thread was coming.

And no, he can't be and couldn't be. He is developing into a very good back up, but that's the limit to his game. He is Matt Flynn. Which is great for what his role is. But not any sort of QBOTF.

Ok fair enough on the no. But let's wait it out and see who was right on this. go look at his stats this year for the bears. The dude is playing very well for a team who gave up like 4 weeks ago. Since he has been QB they have dropped 7 TD passes!! He is playing in bad weather with a bad team against playoff teams.

I like Barkley, but they didn't think he was QBOTF - which is a big difference over backup of the future. They would have put Barkley on the PS if he didn't choose Chicago, and that was a decision he made because being behind Cutler/Hoyer is much better than being behind Palmer/Stanton - the first two could be gone the end of this year, the latter are already signed through next year.

So liking Barkley over Stanton is great, but since Stanton can play the same offense as Palmer (and he has won games doing so) - it was a wise choice to keep Stanton as the backup during the final years for Palmer and the team.

By all accounts, he stunk in BA's system. I think Barkley is one of those type of players that don't practice well, but can light it up on game day. Unfortunately, BASK will not let you play unless you practice well. Who knows how good some of those guys can be? They never get to see live bullets.

I think he might be the type that sticks around as a back up for years but no team is going to run him out as their QB1.

You guys really think that? He doesn't know the Bears playbook great. He is throwing in zero degree weather and he has had a few really good games...I mean they had Tennessee beat and green bay beat. The bears are not very good and yet he has looked really good. He is like 24?! Right. So I'm just saying has he looked worse than Wentz?

I'm surprised how much hostility there is to Barkley by posters here. I have recorded the last three Bear games and Barkley has indeed looked very good. This view is supported by the comments by the announcers. Unless you have actually watched the games, I would not be so quick to say how mediocre he is. Barkley, however, is very fortunate to have been cut by the Cardinals. As others have said, he would not have done well under BA and going to the Bears gave him the opportunity to be a starter. I would be very surprised if the Bears don't offer him a very good contract at the end of the season.

Maybe the Bears will cut Cutler and we could sign him to a "prove it" deal and see if BA can work some more magic with a talented but under-performing QB

True QBOF's don't make their way onto 3 teams in 3 years. Barkley may very well be a decent back-up but he is no QBOF. I believe the issue here is he doesn't fit BA's system but neither does Stanton. Barkley's ceiling should be Brian Hoyer.
