This is awesome news if it proves to be true. Stein is pretty accurate.

I read it again... if he wants it.

Now Stein is hinting Lue might go to the Lakers.

Marc Stein‏Verified account @TheSteinLine

And now for some analysis: LeBron James is a Laker for at least TWO more years. Surely the Lakers understand James would be at his happiest and most engaged playing for Ty Lue. Hiring Lue is the obvious move for the Lakers -- let's see how soon they make it

Since the 76ers had the last two days off it wouldn’t surprise me if the reported upcoming meeting happened today. It is possible that we made him an offer and he is pondering it over. Either that, or we are meeting during their next break (fri-sat) and we have sent word that an offer will be made and he is pondering whether to accept it during the meeting. Either way, my guess is that we will know by the weekend if he is going to accept the job.

I think this is likely. Sarver was supposed to be at the meeting.

Also the way Stein hinted Lue would make a good choice for the Lakers, perhaps they made a decision there.

FYI. For those that think that James Jones was saying he does not like to work, in this interview today Dudley says that one of the characteristics of JJ as the Suns assistant GM was that he was an extremely hard worker. He was up early and at the workout facility and talking to people. He intimated that the previous GM was not a communicator but that JJ is in the extreme. He works hard on personal relationships with players.

I think JJ was saying in that now famous quote is that he is not a computer nerd GM. He is a relationships guy. Here is the link.

That’s good to know if true. Thank you for posting.

Monty seems like the sort of guy who will stay quiet until the Sixers are eliminated and he's no longer needed there. He may agree to a deal before then and ask Jones and Bower to keep it under wraps so it doesn't become a storyline that could distract the young Sixers. I'm sure the players all know what the deal is but they got a tough playoff series right now and that's where their focus needs to be. I'm not saying anything is done but it wouldn't surprise me to learn that an agreement of sorts is in place already.

I hope he's our next coach at this point. Of all the potential coaches we've been linked to over the last year I think Monty is second only to Budenholzer in terms of coaching ability. Prior to talks of him joining the Suns, one of the talking heads on ESPN said he would decline the Lakers job because of what a mess that person walks into. I need to find out who it was that said that because they said Monty was really good friends with Popovich and would be seeking his input on any potential job offers he receives. If Popovich signed off on Monty joining the Suns I think that is a plus for James Jones and Bower, since those are of 2 of the main guys our coach has to deal with.

I don't think anyone questions whether there is talent on the roster. The roster isn't complete by any means but starting off with Booker, Ayton, Bridges, Oubre, Jackson, and others is good young core to build around. We have more pieces than most other rebuilding teams, I think. We've been at it longer so we should but now is the time to find guys to fit around them in order to move forward.

The Suns may to have to pay Williams a substantial contract over a number of years (perhaps four or five years) to get him since the Suns have a terrible record of firing coaches.

And then they need to NOT fire him (or whoever they hire) the first couple of years.

Gambo says the Suns have no offer outstanding for Monty Williams. Reportedly more candidates to come.

It's a little bit different than what we are lead to believe.

The Suns have no offer out to Monty Williams at this point. They do have other candidates lined up to interview.

The Gambo news is disheartening. It's beginning to feel like the Mike Budenholzer situation all over again.

The Suns should interview Dave Joerger if they can't seal the deal with Williams.

Give credit where credit is due, the Suns have an incredible record of firing coaches.

@AzStevenCal

After reading the tweets of Marc Stein I thought the Suns or Lakers would hire a head coach today. He is pretty accurate. Maybe one of the two will still happen.

This is exactly the Mike Budenholzer situation all over again...which means the wretched history of the past year is about to repeat itself.

The owner doesnt have to meet with the coach, i'm not sure why sarver has to insert himself in the process. Trust the people you just hired, are they the same people who just did some firing?

He's signing the checks and he is a major face of the organization. It makes sense, no matter how much you dislike Sarver. It's not like he's sitting down with the secretary for the VP of Facilities.

Yes he's sign off on it, that's only what some owners do. I don't really consider him the face of the organization. If I look at another team or any sports team, I don't identify them by the owner. Only teams maybe are the Laker and Cowboys.

Sorry, I meant whatever Coach he hires will be a face of the organization. I wasn't clear.

Huh?

Every coach is going to meet with the owner. Especially an owner who is known to be hands on like Sarver.
