I know why, our guards on our OL where horrible and that is why we lost. The question is not why we did not look great, I am talking about winning when a Detroit team in all actually was playing some pretty ugly football too. Do not give me that whole if the running game is not working, then it was up to Palmer to beat the Lions because a QB needs at least some kind of threat of running game. We had absolutely no running game at all, and it was the play of our guards. Don't tell me about Palmer being old when the age of Iupati is more of a concern. Bettcher did great, the defense balled till the offense time after time did nothing... we lost because our guards did not come through

I put it on CP. IMO we could have been up 21-0 before Detroit had time to get it going.

If your DL cannot stop the run, the secondary will look bad... if your guards play like ours, there is no way anyone on the offense can look even respectable in my opinion

Carson Palmer (not one really good play made against a poor pass defense)
John Wetzel (Humphries went out and Wetzel got owned)
DL was owned without Nkemdiche which has been my worry all off season.

So, bad QB play, really bad LT play combined with meh OL play in general, and zero interior defensive playmakers.

It's the same as last year. Our starters got no playing time in the preseason. Carson Palmer should have had at least a half in at least two games to get ready for the season.

They need to do away with preseason, for the most part, IMO. The coaches know who they want. They don't need to see/they don't really care how players play/what happens in the preseason games. My opinion.

As far as the O line. They showed one play, short yardage, camera looking down the line. I don't remember when in the game. But on the snap of the ball, all I saw was the surge of the defensive line, moving, firing forward before anyone on our line even moved, it seemed like. They took it to us on that play.

It looked like they knew our count better than we did. Of course, we didn't get the first down.

When a QB plays that bad it's hard to tell.
Many QBs didn't play up to normal standard IMO especially early. I still say there's something to rarely playing in the preseason to all those guys & Palmer being rested during TC. I think each case is different but it's still any issue if the timing isn't on par between receivers & QBs.

This day should end with the Rams having the only win in the division. Move on to week two and

That's way I'm not ready to panic yet. I don't think they're all world can't be beat when they play a great game or call for BA's head when they play like today. Is CP hitting the age wall? Does our O line stink? Is our new kicker as untrustworthy as last year? Who knows off of this game nothing looked to be running smooth and IMO CP was horrible. I think we roll the Colts next week tie up the division and we all feel much better.

a home team won a opening season game, nothing more. The Cards will be fine.
2-2 most likely after 4 games.

yeah... assuming we win next week (which is never a safe assumption when the Cards play backup QBs), we won't really know anything about this team until after the Cowboys game, IMO.
Yeah. Detroit is going to be good and I dont get why so many were upset with losing to them. Their D reminds me of Seattles a few years ago; fast and physical.

Lets see how things are after Dallas. I hope Palmer was just rusty.

I can live with losing to Detroit, but the fact we played so badly is the really concerning part. Hopefully we can gain a lot of confidence against a terrible looking Colts team.

Heading east to play an early game seem to be a recipe for disaster. We just rarely win those games, I know the overall average is bad for any team, but man we need to past that, especially with this years schedule.

Not true. He had the one perfect pass to JJ but he dropped it. :)

The point is we are starting the season making excuses. Seems like that is the MO of out team and fans every year now. Excuses and hope we will be better next outing, over and over again, year after year. Wish we could break that broken record. I am tired of reading and posting about why we lost and the good excuses we can come up with every other week.

By the way, this may have something to do with it. Horrible Prediction: The Browns will make the playoffs before the Cardinals. Yikes!

"The Arizona Cardinals have the oldest group of 22 starters in the NFL, based on actual lineups used by teams in Week 1 games. The Cardinals' average age of their starters was 28.41 years old, or 0.77 years older than any other team.

Arizona has eight starters who were at least 30 years or older on Sept. 10: quarterback Carson Palmer (37), linebacker Karlos Dansby (35), wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald (34), defensive lineman Frostee Rucker (33), center A.Q. Shipley (31), tackle Jared Veldheer (30), guard Mike Iupati (30) and safety Tyvon Branch (30).

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Cleveland Browns have the NFL's youngest group of starters. Their average age of their starting 22 players on opening day was 24.4 years old, or 1.6 years younger on average than any other team in the league.

The Browns had only one starter, tackle Joe Thomas (32), who was at least 30 years old in Week 1. Cleveland had three 21-year-olds starting (quarterback DeShone Kizer, tight end David Njoku and safety Jabrill Peppers), as well as four 23-year-olds and five 24-year-olds. That means 12 of their 22 starters -- more than half -- were 24 years or younger on opening day."

Having lost the game in itself isn't all that bad, but it's more about HOW they lost.

Detroit tried to give that game away in the first half in every conceivable way, yet the Cards refused to take it. In other words they were not able to capitalize on the other team's mistakes. That's something BAD teams do.

They turned the ball over at an alarming rate. Again something BAD teams do.

They had too many stupid penalties- some that wiped out positive plays. Yet another common trait of BAD teams.

Throw in not being able to run the ball, terrible pass protection, zero pressure on the opposing QB in the 2nd half, a missed chip shot FG, etc., well you get the drift.

The cherry on top of this do-do sundae was losing the best player on the team, (that also happens to be one of the best players in the league) for a majority of if not the full season.

It's one game and one loss, yes, but I'm finding it really hard to simply dismiss it because of the way it happened.

The game was close enough (we led for three quarters) so that a few of many screwups could cost us the game.

We can point fingers in many different directions, but just fix one or two things (whether it be pass blocking, 3rd down execution, Carson, RB's) and we'd have been OK.

The left side. Iupati (apparently) is playing with a biceps injury, and Wetzel is a turnstile.

Oh, and CP3 just doesn't look comfortable in a quick passing game.

This X 1000!

The O line is our foundation. If it sucks we cannot run the ball. Carson is very good when he is protected but sucks when he is running for his life. He will not survive the season if the O line gives up another 40+ sacks like last year
