Why don't the Suns run?

I know you all will say it rebounding, and I do believe that is a big part of it. But I think there is something else.

Marbury does not have running mentality. I don't criticize him for it. He likes the half-court game and he plays it well.

Jason Kidd's instinct is to run, Stephs is not.

There was a strategic error made in camp if most of the work was spent on the running game. While these Suns look like they should be a good running team, I believe they should concentrate on the half court offense and be opportunistic in their running.

No way. Only one?

At least they didn't try to install the triangle this year.

But it is good to have a Point Guard who's developing as a playmaker and can score.

As long as Stephon doesn't have to lead the team in scoring, we can grow. I hope that his slow start in Jahidi's first game wasn't the only reason for it.

Five starters in double figures. That was great!

I expect Jahidi White to do a solid job but, whether he does or not, his presence transformed us into a balanced team.

Having Marion or Stoudemire or our 2-Guard combination lead in scoring any particular night, rather than Marbury, will be the other ingredient in putting a balanced (multi-threat) team on the court.

I'm going to enjoy watching this. And if Frank isn't creative enough to get the most out of our roster, my vote is for Mark Iavoroni (now that Bryan has opened the door to a new approach).

The Suns don't run because they don't have the big man who rebound and make the outlet pass right away.

And they don't have good spacing on their breaks. Too often they have a 3 on 1 but because they don't space it well they don't get anything out of it.

Right now Frank's 'run, run, run' plan seems to going the way of his attempt to install a motion offense last year. I suspect it's for the same reason - Frank doesn't know the details of how it's done. You can see that in just the way the team takes the ball out of bounds after a made basket. Teams that run successfully have a well polished method for doing that quickly to a man with momentum upcourt.

It's probably not a great idea for the Suns at this point because it would take too much energy from Marbury to push constantly. Once Barbosa has gotten his NBA legs under him it would be more feasible, assuming what we've heard about him is true. With that and a new coach, we may actually see it happen.
