That would be pretty cool to see McCown start and end here, IMHO.

I have no problem with McCown as a bridge QB.

He could work if you’re thinking the Cards could get the QBOTF ready in one year.

C'mon I've been wanting McCoy for weeks. He's a great mind and a great system. Complicated but great.

My concern isn’t that his system was too complicated, it’s that it wasn’t appropriate for mostly inexperienced QBs. Hopefully the Cards will have one of those.

Agreed.

That is what I am thinking, but it is a risk, no doubt. You draft that QBOF, with the thought he is ready in a year's time, but if he is not, and McCown retires........oh boy.

The only known OC candidate still tied up in playoff/SB play is DeFelippo. The silence surrounding the Flipster is deafening.

If we were ready to sign anyone else, we would have done so already.

Leading me to believe that, at the very least, no decision figures to be made until they interview DeFelippo.

Note - The League rules governing interviews of assistants on playoff or SB teams are unclear to me. Maybe DeFilippo can and will be interviewed before the SB.

Double-Note - No one else mentioned as a possible OC has captured my imagination.

The Cardinals can talk and meet with JDF up until Sunday of this week, if the Eagles approve of the time and place. After that, they need to wait until after the Super Bowl.

they have four more days to interview DFlip,...interviews must be concluded by the 28th

he was tied to Wilks when he interviewed at the Gints,... but they have never worked together so they must have discussed it on the phone or over a beer at some point.

we cou

ld use McCown more than one season,... yeah, he is old but...

"If he dies, he dies"
New guy should be ready year 2 unless it’s Jackson or less. I’d be okay with McCown as a backup, not sure how he’d feel about it.

McCown - love the guy. Bring him in for one year, he'd be the answer to a fantastic trivia question: who threw both the first and LAST pass caught by Larry Fitz during his brilliant career? What an honor that would be!

Just listening to The Ringer & Lombardi said Cards were not impressed by Shurmur. Also mentioned that Bevell probably OC in next 2 days.

I'd like to get Alex Smith for a 2nd or 3rd and use the #1 pick on the best WR available. Our offense would be better than last year and defense could be as well.

If we go with someone like McCown for a year then we will use our #1 on Mayfield and hope to find a good WR in later rounds or FA

Smith will be 34 when the season starts... he most likely only has 3 or 4 years left in his career... why trade significant draft capital for that?

Reid announced smiths availability early for one single purpose... he wants a bidding war...he wants that so he can fleece some team into paying good value for Smith....while he has already decided Smith aint going to start for him next year.
he will try to fan the flames as the draft approaches to make people think Smith is a hot commodity..... if you just gotta have Smith, call reid and offer him a fourth...if he says no, call him again on draft day and offer him a sixth.

but in no way should any of our first three rounds of picks be used to acquire Alex Smith,...he wont play as long as the draft picks will and Reid has a history of sticking it to anybody that trades with him.

and there will be lots of good WR's in the second and third rounds

I'm not really worried about missing out on this year's Brandon Williams or Kevin Minter. I'd rather have a proven quarterback.

right. but a second round pick could be a guy like Simmie Cobbs or auden tate... both big good hands athletic WR's with a bit of speed.
the only thing Smith has "Proven" is that he is a game manager that cant take a team all the way... he puts up great regular season stats... but hell...KC gave him a star RB and a star WR combined with a good defense and they....did nothing.

Thats what you KNOW your going to get with Alex Smith. Thats what his ten some odd years of starting in the nfl have repeatedly shown

Yeah, the problem with focusing on JDF is that he may only be here one or two seasons max. That will have to be considered because once he gets an OC position it will mtl lead more quickly to a HC offer.

Bevell isn't in that conversation really. But he's a capable OC. There would be a better chance he lasts through Wilks' initial term as HC.

Our new coach looks more like DJ's older brother than Denzel.

I'm hoping the new coaching staff helps Keim evaluate some of his picks.
I’m thinking the new HC will help Keim & his scouts look & draft different types of players. Wilks with have certain things in players that will be different than what BA wanted in players.

Imo our drafting will change, now whether we improve or get worse in picking players remains to be seen.

Yeah that would really suck if DiFilippo makes the offense so good that he gets an HC offer after one year. The Cardinals should look for a guy with no advancement potential who makes the offense mediocre at best. :sarcasm:

Not picking on you specifically, WildBB, but i've seen this sentiment expressed repeatedly and can't begin to wrap my head around it.
