Bettcher probably didn't like the fact that he was snubbed for HC...understandable.

If true, it sounds like more meddling by the owner/GM. I also hope the OC choice is being made by Wilks and not the others. The Bevell interview seems more driven by owner/GM, then by HC, which is worrisome.

Likely true but the response was a foregone conclusion. I’m sure his agent knew other offers were out there. This was the right move for all concerned.

I think they do everything by committee. Although I really dont think Mike should be in the meddling mix. Keim & Wilks, mostly Wilks should be filling out HIS staff the way it suits him. Michael signs the checks. Thats about all we need from him.

My guess is that the offer to Bettcher was a perfunctory courtesy with a big catch---Wilks told him the he (Wilks) would be calling the defensive plays in the games. But Bettch could be the coordinator like Goodwin was for BA. Like some of you have said, the question of whether Bettcher would accept was rhetorical.

I think that MB&SK feel it is very important to give everyone (and mostly the fans) the impression how pleased they were with BA and his staff. But, it's pretty easy to glean from Steve Wilks' press conference the improvement areas that MB&SK discussed with Wilks, starting with the players bringing a greater "physicality", "accountability" and "commitment" to the team and the coaches bringing an ability "to relate to different personalities." Notice too, as MJ and B-Berry just said on the radio---the press conference was 30 minutes long and BA was not mentioned once. By anyone. When asked yesterday on the radio about succeeding BA, Wilks lauded BA for all his accomplishments and said that "I have a hard enough time being Steve Wilks to even begin to try to emulate anyone else." Willks left it at that.

Because during the HC interview process it kept being brought up that SK/MB were also pushing for Bettcher to be an option as D coordinator. I don't think Bettcher was on Wilk's short list of DC candidates when he went to interview for any other HC openings (i.e. Titans). So if he came here and asked Betther to remain the DC, even if it was just "window dressing", seems like it came from a front office push.

Common Sense - If you're a new HC hire (or management seeking to hire a HC) would you want to create a political situation where the new HC kept looking over his shoulder out of concern that the runner up for his job might look to undercut him?

Maybe it wouldn't turn out to be a problem but why create the possibility that it would?

why do you think that?

Same reasoning as the Bettcher thing. There were some rumblings before Wilk's was hired, that AZ may be interested in Bevell because of his familiarity of the division, etc... I doubt he was initially on Wilk's short list of potential OC hires when he interviewed for HC positions. Seems logical that SK/MB could be pushing for the interview at this point. Mainly speculation but it doesn't seem as if Bettcher or Bevell would have been in Wilk's plans before he came on board.

Not really. That was nothing more than message board speculation.

I would guess the source on this is Bettcher. There was probably not as simple as it's being made in the report either. The coach that is coming with Wilks from Carolina was named DC fairly early after the announcement.
