In the words of Jerry Glanville "This the the NFL which stands for not for long..."

As far as Wilks' staff goes IMHO:
Ray Brown-------->Harold Goodwin
Keith Rogers------>Amos Jones

I think firing Wilks was the right move, but Keim should have been fired as well. Keim is responsible for the poor roster and I have little confidence in his ability to fix the offensive line.

Wilks self sabotaged. He wasn't handed a dud as.some are saying he was.

Inherited a legit 8-8 team without a legit starting QB and with a decent, not great OL, got back arguably Top 3 RB, and Top 5 Run Defense.

Changed 3 starting OL and changed from 3-4 to 4-3.

Last in offense, Last in defense, worst statistical year for the most part for any Cardinals team ever.

Wilks could've had a much better record just by staying with the 3-4. That alone could have provided 3 maybe 4 more wins? If we stop the run on a more cosistant bases, we have those more 50/50 games. That would've saved his job. We got worse as the year went on, collectively.

I don’t see the racial part, but I do see Wilks 11 months vs Keims 6 years. Wilks can only play the players provided. Overthrosen looked nothing like a franchise qb - actually the cards downgraded from the year before vs Gabbert/Stanton. Wilks was bad and rightfully shown the door, but Keims should have been shown that same door. Not confident Keims has what it takes to right the ship.

Sounds like they're trying to make this a racial thing. Bottom line is he was an awful head coach. He'll land somewhere else as an assistant. Dude made a lot of money, he'll be fine

It does seem that way. Whether or not you like the Bidwill's, they have led the way in racial diversity having hired a minority GM (Rod Graves) and head coaches (Denny Green and Steve Wilks).

There's a difference between "success" and "not being the worst offense is 25 years."

We were the latter. These guys probably haven't watched an actual Cards game since Week 2.
Do you blame them?:)

all coaches have their friends in the media --

the team gets to hold a press conference and tell their side of the story. the coach (usually) doesn't get that opportunity.

Further, no coach is going to bag on ownership publicly -- even if justified-- because he knows that would be the kiss of death on future employment prospects

so -- you or your agent just get a proxy/friend in the media to make the case for you

As a HC Wilks has no redeeming qualities. Poor scheming, no adjustments, poor game planning, ridiculous in game decision making, bad clock management etc

Each plan to keep him involved hiring new assistants for him. If he relies that heavily on his assistants, then why do we need him exactly? Why is it that Harbaugh, Belichick, Reid etc can excel regardless of their coordinators? That’s something Wilks has to figure out if he wants a shot at being an HC again.

Wilks seems to have a lot of media friends. While I agree Keim definitely should have been fired for what has happened this season, the article is very disingenuous in how it maximizes Keims impact then minimizes what Wilks did while he was here.

And what kind of advice is it to say bring Wilks back for next season, but threaten to fire him mid season next year? That would be 2 wasted years for this team and render the position less desirable for future candidates.

only the 10th coach to be fired after only one season since 2000 — for the franchise’s failures.

Does the author know that means 10 out of 19 seasons?

Which makes one happening this year not a 'only' situaiton, but a rather normal one.

Don't people even just run the numbers in their heads once? Something that happens >50 percent of the time after each season since 2000 is not odd or rare or outrageous.
