wha? I thought that YOU NEED ME story was about Jimmy Butler. If Bender said it, he should be put on medical leave so they can check him into a psych ward.

Somebody, I think it was on twitter, morphed that Butler story into a Bender tale for humorous purposes.

Curious to see if Chriss' option will get picked up. I haven't seen anything and a google search yielded no news.

This is from the ESPN article:

The Suns will decline Bender's option, freeing themselves of the $5.8 million salary that he would have been guaranteed in 2019-20, league sources said.

He won't be alone. Sources say Houston is leaning against picking up its option on Marquese Chriss (the No. 8 overall pick in 2016), and Detroit has declined its option on Henry Ellenson (No. 19 overall).

Hmm, maybe my memory got screwed up, or I wasn't paying attention. Let me hunt around.

Have to admit it's funny.

It was a little funny but the real funny part of it is I was hoping that it was true. Any signs of life from that guy could only be a plus. I take that back if he grabs an M-16 and climbs a tower.

I can't figure out whether this is legitimate, or how it would be tracked down.

Edit: Oh, it's a satire thread. The follow-up comments make that clear. I saw the first part quoted somewhere and didn't get the context.

That's probably all it would take for Bender to have a solid NBA... to show more aggressiveness as a player.

A lot of players have had successful NBA careers by concentrating on rebounding, playing defense and cleaning up missed baskets.

Whoever told Bender to stand in the corner and wait for a shot didn't do him any favors.

The Lakers told Divac to play close to the basket and it worked. Perhaps the same should have happened with Bender.

Having Bender stand in the corner waiting for a three point shot was just stupid. He need to be moving around the key and popping out when the opening presented itself. How is it that fans can see this but other for some reason can't?

Wouldn't we rather have $6m. Doesn't this mean we will have in the neighborhood of 30m in cap space?

That's one max guy or a couple good pieces. Management needs to get its $%%$ together and not screw this up.

Hope the Suns learned not to draft project players going forward, especially in the top 10. Try drafting kids who already know how to play the game, if possible?

Maybe this was Bender's only skill entering the NBA (shooting the 3 point shot) and he never advanced beyond that stage even with the encouragement from the coaching staff.

Bender should have been coached to develop his inside game first although I'm not sure if he would have played much. Maybe he will never develop those skills although there was the occasional flash.

Not surprised. Bender sealed his fate with his summer league and preseason play. I really like the kid, I hope he figures it out and turns into a good player, but you can't come into your third season looking like a rookie.

But what year is he really? He got virtually no playing time the year or two prior to being drafted so he's still grossly inexperienced and he shows it often. We blame him but I think we all know most of the blame should fall on our scouting staff to include Ryan.

I can't disagree with that.

I think this is technically Bender's 3rd year but if you look at his age, minutes played, and everything about his development it's more like his sophomore season. He missed half of the possible games he could have played in his true rookie season and that was as the youngest player in the league by a considerable margin. Last year he dealt with the coaching carousel and spotty minutes and role. He was never given much of an opportunity this year, in preseason or Summer League. I don't think we'll regret letting him go but it appears the Suns are deadset on moving away from McD's regime as much as possible and Bender is a part of that. The only thing they're keeping is Booker, really, with question marks surround Warren since he is a valuable trade piece.

I know some have questioned if Houston picks up Chriss' option and I think they will but not because he's a good player. They have virtually no trade assets and really don't have much as far as tradable salaries either. I think they'll pick up the option only because his value is slightly higher with the 4th year option picked up than declined.

This is likely why McDonough and his scouts are gone. Too many misses in the draft.

It's a Reddit thing. Any time there is a twitter report of what a player said, r/NBA will start a circle jerk of changing the details and attributing the quote to someone else. LeBron's quotes are the most popular.

But I particularly remember someone taking Butler's quote and filling in Bender.

Here it is.

Yeah, how I wish Bender would say "You bleeping need me!" Killer instinct, he has not.

He doubled down on Bender and Chriss while giving up the rights to Bogdanovic for the priviledge. EPIC FAIL!

With the failure of the 2016 draft, the Suns really need Josh Jackson to succeed.
