Pittsburgh sports talk radio guys today have been lamenting the loss of Gay. That makes me rather happy about the signing :D

Love it

Casualty of the Steelers' cap issues. IMO only reason he's not in Pittsburgh this season.

If the Cards sign Bell, and they are looking to improve the OL, I draft two OTs and cut Bridges. If Bell gets injured either Massie steps in or Browm slides over. If Brown slides over Snyder steps in at RT. If DeCastro gets injured Snyder steps in at RG. If Colledge gets injured, either Kelemente slides in or Snyder slides over. It would be a very versatile group. We would carry 9 offensive linemen if Long wasn't on the practice squad, and would have backups at every position. (DeCastro/Kelemente/Snyder at OC)

As far as the P goes, the biggest openings would be Broyles, Franklin, or Long. Ideally, I hate the thought of taking a P this year in the draft.

As far as ILB, keep in mind that LBs are rare in that they can cnotribute on special teams while you are waiting for them to develop. Franklin would beat out Reggie Walker in my opinion or cause the team to cut Bradley (though I doubt it).

I hate the thought of taking a punter in any draft. But right now, despite several positions that need shoring up, IMO the two big things will insure we linger among the also-rans are QB and punter. With Kolb and Skelton we can hope that our QB position will gradually resolve itself but we really don't have that hope when it comes to the punter. If there isn't a quality FA punter available there are 3 or 4 punters coming out this year (Anger, Powell, Butler and maybe Martens) that I think we need to spend a 6th round pick on if any of them are still around when we pick. Even if we have to spend a 5th on one of them, I think it's worth it.

Keep in mind that what Grimm likes to do to "train" OL is to start them at guard for the first year or two, and then have them backup the OT position. It's how they ran with Brandon Keith and with Herman Johnson (I wish that dude had panned out--what a waste).

I don't skew my posts to include anyone else's stupidity other than mine.

Honestly, what pisses me off about our offensive line situation is that it isn't hard to fix, you just have to be committed to doing it and willing to endure the bumps and bruises along the way.

Well, why don't you send Ryan a Tweet telling him that he doesn't know what he's talking about....

Cool stuff from Football Outsiders:

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2012/best-cornerback-charting-stats-2011

William Gay was Top 10 last year in yards per pass against. Ike Talyor was also on the list, so it might just be that Pitt's defense is really good.

Also, Richard Marshall was Top 5 in success rate against, although he wasn't good on a yards per pass basis (35th) or YAC average (59th).

A.J. Jefferson has proven to be a guy who can at least hit. He was top 10 last season in YAC yards against (2.3), it's just that guys caught the ball against him all the time (46% success rate--66th in the NFL), and were well downfield when they did (7.9 YPA--49th in the NFL).

In July FO's Annual comes out. It's a great deal at like $15; every football fan should get one. They're way better than the Lindy's guides that come out every fall.

That explains Finnegans deal.

I knew he wasnt worth that Ransom the Rams paid him. However it appears he put up his best year last year and has thus elevated his FA worth. Hes good, no doubt, but I dont think he can maintain those numbers. Im more concerned about him getting dirty on Larry like he did against Andre.

My hope is Vernon Davis beats his skinny ass so the division doesnt have to deal with him.
