Win over the Nugs

Hey, I don't have time to read through the whole game thread, and being in PA could not watch the game. It sounds like we had a comeback for the ages. Why did we fall behind so badly? Was it a collapse on their part, or simply an unstoppable comeback, that won it for us?

i think denver shot like 78% first quarter.. and 63% through half time..

we were shooting like 38% till then..

that was the difference..

The Suns didn't score for the last 3 min of the 1st quarter.

They were sleepwalking in the first half.

Also, our defensive rotations were horrible. We had Denver guys back dooring us and running free on the baselines with back cuts. Then couple that with hot Denver shooting. The team came out and played some good defense in the 2nd half and went on a scoring binge like I have never seen.

The 3's at the beginning of the 4th quarter had to be back breaking to the Nuggets.

Nash taking over the game with his shooting reminds me of the year Amare was out. Nash would just take over games at times. He was just SICK last night between his hot shooting and more importantly..the timing of his shooting.

Yeah Nash went from jeckyl to hyde on them in the second half. Nash has to be the best shooter in the NBA. The 3pt contest is no realistic barometer, too many shots too fast. The fact that nash gets so much defensive attention and STILL drills 48% is sick. Against some teams, I would like to see him play more as a spot up shooter to conserve his legs for the 4th quarter. the suns could let hill or shaq run the offense at times when Nash is in the game.

Good thing Nash lit it up for you guys though. I thought they had it in the bag, but these are the Nuggets after all. Defensive stalwarts they are not.

No, not through the entire game. The Suns actually played good defense the 2nd half. They Nugz only scored 47 points in the 2nd half. The Suns picked it up on defense and offense.

This team falls asleep defensively sometimes but we are still holding teams to a low FG% since the all star break. I think sometimes this team needs a shot in the mouth (a la Steve) to get going.

I would too if the Suns only scored 116. Games against Golden State and Denver are high scoring affairs because of the style and the offensive prowess. I'd be more concerned if they gave up 117 to an offensively inert squad (which I'm sure they have...but Denver isn't one of those squads).

If Camby and Martin are going to be money from 20 feet and Smith is going to make several shots a game while falling down sideways onto his ass, the Nuggets will put up 117 on anybody.

The Suns will never be a great defensive team. If they can be a mediocre one, that will be a huge improvement. They didn't show up in the first half last night, but their defense in the second half was fine.

No it isn't, because the Suns and Nuggets aren't going to meet in the playoffs. The Nuggets probably need to win tonight to keep their hopes alive of even participating.

Field goal % is a better measure of defense. Giving up a lot of points can be a result of fast pace to the game.

Nash now leading the NBA in 3 point percentage is a much better barometer.

Denver just flat out got b#%$# slapped in the second half period! Call it what you want we sleepwalked the first half and still put up 132 this team can beat ANYONE if they play like they did in the second half.

Not at all. You know the old phrase: defense wins championships.

The proof hangs in the rafters of the AT&T center (and the trophy display case). Come to think of it, they might even need to build an addition to it this year.......

Hate to beat a dead horse but it doesn't seem like people around these parts recognize the need for great defense in order to seriously contend for a title.

I'm just puzzled that people are so exuberant about these offensive outbursts. Nice fireworks display, but where's the NBA Title banner? For that matter, where's the Western Conference Championship banner?

I'm a realist gentlemen. The Nuggets aren't a serious contender yet. Getting to round two would be a major milestone for them.

You on the other hand tout the Suns as serious contenders. Do you honestly believe you can run and run your way to a title while giving up 106/per?
