You can't force your hand into having to take 1 player. If we draft Peterson and he comes in better than Edge then cut Edge if no trade can be worked out. As much cap space as we have we could take the hit. Plus, i think the OL has played decent the last two weeks. It still needs plenty of help, mostly at center, but, if we tag Big, we can get upgrades throughout the draft and don't have to take a lineman in round 1. If the Cards don't franchise Big then they are pretty much commiting themselves to drafting an OT in round 1.

The line played well at pass protection. It would be nice to be able to generate a little push for the run however.

With our current line we are a one-dimensional team. Until we get some push out of our line, we are doomed to an endless repeat of last year, that being a great passing team that loses close games. What this year has proved (at least to me) is that expecting success from anyone in the backfield, without addressing the line, is silly.

They didn't even try to run last week. It's like they were afraid to. The previous week was Edge's, and the OL's, best game. I'm not saying they are set by anymeans but they have played better recently.

Last week they played the leagues best run D. I'm cool with the decision not to run.

Our offense needs to use the short pass game to make up for our inability to run, and we did that effectively.

I would only keep 3 players on that OL, Davis, Brown, Lutui...

LG-Davis, C-Brown, RG- Lutui

We need two new OT's...

I can see gameplanning that way but at least try the run. I know it's college but Michigan came into OSU with the number 1 rated run defense and the Buckeyes weren't afraid. They put up over 200 yards rushing on them. The same goes for Texas A+m against Texas. The Aggies kept running on them and won the game. At leats make the team shut your run game down instead of just assuming you can't.On second though, in the Cards case that may have been a good idea :D .

The crazy thing is that Edge had a 14 yard run within his first couple of carries --

you would have thought that would have encouraged them a bit more

I see you're coming around to the idea of Brown as a C. I would love to add a Mawae type that has the experience but I don't see a type like that in the FA list.

I have to say AP is the ONE guy in the draft that doesn't need a line.... he can carry all 11 defenders for a first down.... uphill.....in the snow......with no shoes on. He's that good. Now his shelf life in the NFL will be Eddie George-esque because of how upright he runs and how tall he is, but I'd take 6-8 great years over 10 so-so years anytime.

Because we shuldn't be picking in the top 10 next year!!! You can't draft that way, you'll pass on one player to hope to get another one next year?

That's my thought on him too. I remember when Dickerson was at SMU people said the same thing, runs too upright will never last in the NFL.

Well dickerson played 11 years in the NFL, the first 7 were great, over 1000 ever year, over 2000 once.

Like you I think Peterson is that type of player, to get to 2000 you need an OL of course nobody in the world could put up Dickerson like numbers behind our current OL, but I actually think he'd be better than Edge because when there is a hole, he'll go for 50+, not 14 like Edge does now. That's the primary thing Edge doesn't have the speed now to go the distance so he doesn't get the really long runs that other RB's do.

To me, the solution is to fix the things that are keeping him from being the player that we thought he was

We're going to sign Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison and Dallas Clark and get Tony Dungy to coach?

Leinart has more upside than Peyton, we have two receivers the equal of Harrison (K9's opinion aside) and while a better tight end would be nice, I still have hope for Pope. We are going to have a new coach next year who might be the equal to Dungy.

What we don't have are linemen who are the equal to Indy's.

We get that fixed and this is me ===>:fans:

No thanks. For some reason, I bet Peyton was Faulk so he could have his ring. I honestly do not think that he will lead his team to a Superbowl victory. I am not saying that Faulk instead of James would have done it, but I bet that he envies Faulk for his ring.

How many times do we have to take backs highly in the draft, before we realize that it is not the back that is the Cards problem. It's the OLine people!!!

Bingo...We have a winner!!!

Absolutely.....I trade my #2 pick for draft picks and take 5 OL with my first 5 picks. I make fixing this OL my priority period. It all starts and ends here. An avg QB, RB, WR are all better when you have guys up front that can block. With the talent we have at those positions, a good to above average line would make us at least 8-8. Our line is below average to bad. This must be addressed.

If we pick that high you've gotta get something impact. Peterson would be great.

The only OL picked in the Top 3 I remember really being a stud is Orlando Pace. Thomas is no Pace.

The Cardinals line has been below average to bad for over 10 years.

Bottom 10 in the NFL in rushing yards and yp attempt for 11 of the last 13 seasons, including 1998.

What makes people think this organization knows how to address the problem?

We hope.

Our offense is nowhere near where Indy's is regardless of the offensive line. In 2-3 years if we get the right coach, which is a big if, we might be there but I'm not holding my breath.

Enough of this crappy Line. We need to throw every bit of logic out the window at this point & go OVER board on fixing the oline!

If it means taking a OT 3 spots to high FINE. We need to draft 2-3 linemen, & sign 2-3 more in F/A.

If AP is such an elite back then there will be trades available.

Fix that line period! Give not only James a chance to perform at a high level but Leinart also...

Couldn't have said it better! Edge is fine and will lead us into the playoffs...Just not this year

A point of clarification: I don't think anyone is talking about taking Peterson because they think there's anything wrong with Edge other than he's not going to be playing football forever.

I am all for addressing the line and the draft will play a large part in that but it bears mentioning that the 2002 Arizona Cardinals starting OLine featured 3 first round draft picks (Davis, Kendall, Shelton) and a second round draft pick (Clement). They sucked.

Although if we still had them our line might be a little better today than it is. :(

And the key to that OL if I have my year right was Gruttadauria at C, as soon as he hurt his back, the OL fell apart.
