Cardinals (6-6) at Giants (5-7)
1 p.m. ET | Fox
Matchup rating:
38.4 | Spread: ARI -1.5 (45)

What to watch for: The Giants have rushed for at least 132 yards in six of their past seven games. This week, they get to face the league's 22nd-ranked rushing attack. How running back Wayne Gallman & Co. do against Arizona's defense will go a long way in determining the final outcome of this contest. -- Jordan Raanan

Bold prediction: Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins will have 125 yards and a touchdown, but it won't be enough because the Cardinals will be playing from behind for most of the game. Hopkins hasn't had 100 yards receiving since Week 10, so he's due for a big game. -- Josh Weinfuss

Stat to know: The Giants had 15 turnovers and 10 takeaways in their first eight games. Over their past four, they have committed only two turnovers and secured 10 takeaways.

Playoff/draft picture: Arizona has a 40% chance of making the playoffs, per FPI. Win, and it becomes 51%. Lose, and the Cards are left at 21% to make the postseason. The Giants, meanwhile, enter the week at 57% likely to win the NFC East, and it would rise to 77% with a win.

Injuries: Cardinals | Giants

What to know for fantasy: Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray's worst three games this season have come in succession, and yet his 308 fantasy points still rank second across all positions. See Week 14 rankings.

Betting nugget: The Giants are 8-2 ATS as an underdog this season with seven straight covers. Read more.

Weinfuss' pick: Giants 24, Cardinals 17
Raanan's pick: Giants 26, Cardinals 23
FPI prediction: ARI, 63.9% (by an average of 4.8 points)

I think he meant 21st-ranked rushing defense. The Cardinals have the 3rd-ranked rushing attack. (Though, not lately!)

I'm not sure this is a great matchup for us offensively.

Their outside rush isn't great so they blitz quite a lot. So it's not detrimental to them to have their EDGE guys play contain against Kyler. But their interior D line is good, some big guys there too. Contain on the edge, pressure up the middle and blitz the B gaps is exactly what makes Kyler struggle.

Their DB's are pretty good too, especially Bradberry.

Plus the Giants just had the perfect warm up game against the Seahawks where they ran a very similar defensive game plan.
Don't worry . I could guard Hopkins and his 6 yard pass routes. NO THREAT.

Actually, you could not get your butt going on sixty to try and pry a ball from Hopkins even if you knew it was coming, but good try newbie to the forum... btw, the tradition is we all state hypothetically the meal we would want a new member to buy us, so I will take a bowl of seafood gumbo and a Guinness Stout :)

Jones figures to make his return to the starting lineup this week, but he is officially listed as questionable after practicing in full on Friday. Martinez is also listed as questionable but did not practice on Friday, and his absence would be huge for a defensive unit that has been playing well. The Giants are in the middle of a tight race in the NFC East, and are looking to build on their four-game win streak.

Nugent time

Jesus. Nugest hasn't been a full time starting kicker since 2016 when he kicked 69%. He last kicked for the Pats and had 62%.

Id rather stick with Zane.

the fact that this was the guy we decided to stash on the PS is another indictment of Keim’s Cant-be-bothered attitude towards our kicking game.

So do we believe Zane has a back injury or that they just decided to try out Nugent and used that as an excuse? Normally I would say he has a back injury but I'm really not sure how a kicker injures his back in practice?

Just a few last minute thoughts. Golden went against Thomas every week I practice. Thomas has gotten better every week. If he has a weakness it’s against an inside rush. I would hope the Cards stunt some with their line on the Giants’ left side. You can’t really wear down the line as like most trams do on defense, the Giants rotate their offensive line. The rush, as a whole, definitely needs to get more creative. Just having everyone stand up is not a substitute for deception created by movement. The Giants line has been playing great. The Cards will need to actually blitz more if the hope to pressure Jones. They will need to stay under control because Jones loves to run up the middle. If the Cards leave the middle open, getting pulled away in coverage, Jones is healthy enough to kill them. The Giants will try to use Sheppard often on third down as the Cards looked hopeless against Kupp. On the ground the Giants will continue to run regardless of the success. They will seek to wear down the injury depleted Cards’ D-line. This will be a game of attrition.

On the Cards side it is hard for me to imagine they can control Williams. He’s exactly what the Cards hoped they were getting in Phillips. Murray will have a problem because Williams continually collapses the pocket. That means Murray will rarely be able to step up into the pocket if pressed from the outside. If Murray try’s to just sit in the pocket, like last week, he will get pummeled. He can’t elude the rush by just dropping straight back. He needs to rollout and when in the pocket get the ball out quickly.

BTW, Murray has a tell the league has picked up on. Especially when looping outside Murray uses a head fake to get the defender to pause and lose momentum. Teams are now teaching pass rushers to watch his shoulders, not his head. It seems to be working.

Otherwise with regard to the run game. I’m especially worried about Drake vs. Tomlinson. They shut down the runs between the tackles against Seattle. The Cards need a run blocker to make a second level block. I don’t know if we’ve seen one this season.
