I agree with wolfley. Running a D that they never use to force us to pass when he knows we want to try our run game is so richard. Good job on wiz on making an adjustment. No sense in running our HB's into a wall.
Huh? Oakland never uses the 46 defense? You may want to watch a little more Oakland football games if you think they "never" use the 46. At it's heart and soul, the Oakland defense is a 46 style defense. They do not ALWAYS play that set but it is built heavily into their scheme and their play calling. Besides, even if they never use it, there are going to be times where an oposing defense does something completely unexpected and has to be dealt with.
I am not going to listen to an archive but if Whisenhunt was whining about the defense his team had to run against because it was the first preseason game, then one has to wonder what kind of HC he will ultimately be.
Whisenhunt should understand that the standard NFL preseason stuff no longer applies:
1. Teams do not have nearly as physical practices as they once did.
2. The old notion that teams do not blitz in preseason has gone out the window as the preseason games now take the place of the missing contact (scrimmages) so teams have to work out the kinks of their blitz packages (among other things) away from the practice fields.
3. The overall vanilla-ness of preseason football is gone and it is refreshing for a coaching staff, especially a new staff like the Cards have, to have to think on the fly and make quick adjustments like Whisenhunt had to. He should embrace that fact instead of complaining about what Ryan did in the first preseason game (assuming he was complaining about it on the archive).
