I can't wait to see this kid play and see what kind of impact he has out there, but Wolfley's opinion means pretty much zero to me. I don't think I've ever heard him make a player evaluation...or hell...ANY point that I've ever agreed with him on.

even when posting here his insight was awesome but he roots for the underdogs more than most.

The way Cardinals color commentator Ron Wolfley reviewed the play is what left a lasting impression if you ask me. Check out this audio of Wolfley calling Stephens-Howling the “popcorn fart,” courtesy of Sports Mashup:

Man, it was his posting here that made me think he was the biggest idiot alive. His pimping of...was it Langston Moore over Dansby was the worst shill-idiotic-commentary I'd ever heard. And it went on and on like that.

His training camp reports were awesome. He liked the underdogs for sure but I liked him as a poster.

– Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but Tyrann Mathieu forced a fumble, punching a ball lose after a catch by tight end Jeff King. It’s going to be very interesting to see him in games because over the last week or so, Mathieu has been a playmaking machine.

Indeed it was Steve. However, it is important to note that it was a modern handshake...not a classic handshake.

Wolf's kool-aid ridden opinions are horrendous but he's right about this one. Badger clearly can hang with the big boys and his off-the-field behavior has been impressive so far. Keep working bud!

Im really liking Tyrann thus far, but I have a feeling he will screw up eventually down the road. Maybe after he gets paid some day.

But after time passes, and hes not under a microscope anymore, bad habits have a way of creeping back. Might be months down the road, but once he gets comfortable as being an NFL player, I think he'll revert.

I hope not. Hes doing great so far, but hes also is a very controlled situation. It wont be like that forever.

Yeah, on the day Michael Beasley put the final nail in his NBA career I could not help but think of the Honey Badger's similar issues. But there is one major difference... Beasley sucked.

I hope Mathieu keeps it up but I think its going to take a long time before I stop worrying about the 'other shoe'.

And he forced yet another turnover in practice today by stripping the ball out of Jeff King's arms. Man this guy just has a knack for forcing turnovers. Something we have really lacked for a while now has been a true ball hawk in the middle of our secondary.

Everyone keeps discounting Wolfley but the WOW quotes were from the scout. Who cares what Wolfley thinks? But I tend to listen to scouts.

Not that are are not wrong all the time as well but they have an educated approach to which the view players. And yeah no one needs to get his bust ready but its pretty damn exaciting that A) he was the most exciting ballhawk in recent NCAA history even finishing third in the Heisman vote and B) he is validating that reputation 3 months into his career.

Wait till he picks Vince Young twice on Friday and the whole thing is going to go into overdrive....

So far so good re Mathieu.

Next steps -

- Do it on the field in real games against increasingly talented opposition as the preseason progresses.

- Deal with the normal wear and tear and stay healthy.

- Tune out all the hype and stay on the straight and narrow.

Things sure look promising and we can hope - But I'm not ready yet to anoint Tyrann King of the Universe. He's still got to meet those other challenges. One thing at a time.

We had a ton of turnovers last season, that our "0" did nothing with.

As a team they did force quite a bit of turnovers, but it still remains true that we really haven't had a true ball hawk type safety back there for quite some time. ADub and Rhodes were good and did force their share of turnovers, but they weren't really ball hawks in the way that Tyrann is. I just hope that his size doesn't get him hurt and he can stay out of trouble off the field, otherwise he is going to single-handedly force a lot of turnovers for this defense.

Side question do we know yet where the Cards are going to play him? Is he a safety, a 3rd CB or some hybrid position?

I could give a rats ass unless hes doing it in games. In practice with shorts don't mean jack crap and anyone excited at this point needs to temper that enthusiasm for awhile. When I say games I mean the ones that count on Sunday's.

Why? Seriously, why? With all the piss poor things we have to look forward to as Cards fans (based on history) why should we deny ourselves this brief moment where we can enthusiastically look forward to having our own Troy Polamalu out there? Reality will hit us smack in the face soon enough, leave us our dreams for awhile. And do you really think we don't know that none of it matters unless he can do it in games? I'm thrilled that scouts are reportedly thrllled by this kid, I'll be even more thrilled if and when he does it for real.

Steve
