Bettcher is a fat moron. He is the only DC I have seen who plays cover 0 on a hail Mary.

That actually was BA's call. Bettcher had the prevent in---but BA called it off and told the defense to send the dogs full-tilt after Rodgers.

Wasn't Woodley supposed to be a sort of coach when he came in last year then he wasnt decided if he was going to play? He had a surprising season the year before which is what granted him such praise. I was glad he was aboard because it was Bettcher's first season as DC. so what's he bitching about exactly? The reason for his sticking around is because he knew the system so well.

It probably has to do with him not being hand picked to coach up the players this season. I seen an article on the Cards site where Leftwich was aboard.

Yep he clearly stated that after the game

By that logic, Bruce Arians and Harold Goodwin should also be called out by former players because the offensive gameplan was pretty repugnant, as well. However, the rest of the season tells a different story about Bettcher.

I think Bettcher gets way too much flack on this board. Dude had a defense ranked 5th in YPGA and 7th in PPGA with marginal talent at linebacker. To put that in perspective, in 2013, Bowles's first season as DC with the team, his defense was 6th in YPGA and 7th in PPGA. And you can argue Bowles had much more talent on that defense with Dansby, Washington, and Abraham at linebacker.

If Woodley has a problem, he needs to look in the mirror, particularly if he's calling out two different DCs in one breath. Woodley was merely a body out on the field and virtually useless.

Well stated

I believe you are thinking of Larry Foote who actually became a coach after preseason. He was undecided on whether he wanted to play another year or coach.

Thank you yes you're correct. That's what had me confused on the situation. Very cool man thanks again.

I totally forgot that Woodley was on the team last year.

As for his comments about Bettcher, sounds like sour grapes to me. I think for a rookie DC he did a pretty good job considering he had no true pass rusher on the team. He was far from being a polished DC but it wasn't like our defense was terrible. Hopefully Bettcher learns from last year and can utilize his new weapons to make this defense even bettcher.

bettcher has some issues, as we all know. mainly adjusting and game planning, but woodley is way off base to come out publicly and rip his former teams like this. this dude just ruined his chance at getting another NFL job

I finally listened to his comments and it is really sad. Saying the schemes were different than what was in pitt. Well duh. Good players can make the adjustments....he obviously can't. At least not anymore (assuming he ever could). This is more tearing coaches down to try to make himself look better.

Maybe Woodley thinks that when absolutely nothing left physically, you somehow become smarter.

Yeah that was a disaster in Carolina. What kind of genius does it take to figure that out? Personally I think the defense's biggest problem in that game was that we turned the ball over seven g-damn times and left them on the field against a good offense for basically the whole game.

I understand his concerns and they're valid. It's a shame players can say those things and yet GM's like Keim and owner Bidwill have to stay silent for political reasons. He didn't do himself any favors, no coach or GM or owner is going to want to pick up a player who has just ripped his last two bosses.

Keim and Bidwill can't say it, but I will: He didn't fit for us, he played poorly when he did play. He was basically a worthless acquisition. Keim and Bidwill ate that without saying a word. It happens.

I thought BA said it perfectly.

I wouldn't dismiss this as sour grapes out of hand.

The specific thing he was being critical about is that apparently he didn't listen to players and make adjustments.

The results of the Carolina game support at least the idea that he may have been out coached. They got steam rolled.

In some ways it was a rather typical high level playoff route where the snowball gets so big all you see are feet sticking out.

A new DC might be hesitant to listen to players because he doesn't want to look stupid or weak. It could be sour grapes, new coach or dumb coach.

We all hope it's not the last one but it could be.

There will always be people that push the blame on everyone but themselves.

There will always be people that believe that the person in charge is obligated to follow the advice of people who will not be held responsible for that advice.

There will always be people that believe their poor communication skills or unconvincing arguments are the fault of others not listening to them.

Woodley could be right, but it sure sounds like an excuse heard too often to accept.

Except only one player is saying this and it is a player that had two horrible seasons in a row and is now bashing two different coaches claiming they are why he is no good anymore.

Bettcher did a great job for a rookie coach. We dominated the league. Let's see what happens this year with a true pass rush. Carolina steamrolled the majority of its opponents, not just us.

To be fair, who else do you expect to say something? Current players? No way do they cut off their own nose. So the list has to be small.

You would likely hear anonymous smoke or something, not just one no longer employed guy whining about it.

Not buying that at all. Even if you didn't like your DC talking to the media about it in almost all cases leads to disaster unless you are no longer employed with that team.
