I really enjoyed the movie as well and I wasn't expecting it.

I was kind of disappointed with the book because I was expecting it to be at least something like what I saw in the theater. I knew it would be different based off the reviews but I was shocked at how different the two were.

:barf:

You watched THAT movie, and read the book, and out of the two, you were disappointed in the BOOK? Wow. Just wow.

Yes. I was entertained by the movie and wanted more so I read the book expecting to recognize some of the stuff from the movie. When the main character from the movie never showed up in the book it was shocking to say the least and I was kind of disappointed. I'm not saying the book was bad but it wasn't what I was expecting.

So in my case it was the exact opposite of those who read the book before seeing the movie.

As you now know, the book is political and social commentary using zombies as the machinery. The movie is simply a zombie movie.

No man, it doesn't usually matter which you see/read first. It's about quality. You enjoyed a truly bad movie, but were disappointed in a very good book. I mean, your opinion, your right to it and all, but DAMN! Do I find myself almost unable to believe this post.

This isn't just aimed at you. You know, opinion is opinion, and a lot of people have different opinions than mine. I used to love this board because a lot of the posters recognized how bad Hollywood has become, but man, has my opinion of the tastes here changed. Rave reviews about awful movies and trashing of the Terminator recently...wow, just wow.

Well, the list of people/places I trust when I want to know if I'll like a movie has shrunk a little bit.

he enjoyed a movie...that a lot of people REALLY liked, has gotten pretty good reviews (even with a TON of negative press before it) and is raking in money. All those factors don't usually end up coming from a "truly bad movie".

I think you're just holding on too tight to the book. I loved the book, but I went in knowing the title was solely being used to sell the property and was able to enjoy the movie for what it was.

Nope, I am certainly not holding too tight to the book. Myself and my friend knew exactly what the movie was supposed to be. We knew it wasn't supposed to bear even the smallest resemblance to the book. We were both cool with that as long as it turned out to be a good movie. As the film progressed, we could each hear each other's groans of distaste.

Everyone I've talked to, and everyone's opinions I trust, have trashed the movie, irrespective of the book. Most of the people I know haven't read the book, but have hated the movie. That's why I'm shocked (and disappointed) that so many people on here like it so much. I feel like my allies against Hollywood schlock and mediocrity have all surrendered.

I just saw this. I also have not read the book. I thought it was fairly entertaining. There were flaws with it but it was fast paced and pretty intense. Until the end that is. Then it just dropped off and ended when I was expecting it to go on. What a terribly weak ending.

Saw this two days ago. I love zombie movies and even I was disappointed. They spent a lot of money making zombies not scary, whereas Blair witch spent no money making nothing scary. A complete failure and one of the worst writing jobs ever, at least that I've seen. That story was just plain amateur hour.

Agreed completely! It's a head scratcher as to how this movie succeeded. I guess people just like zombies and Brad Pitt, so they're willing to overlook the suck.

I just bought the Blu-Ray. I didn't get to see this in the theater. I am going to watch this today. I never read the book either so I won't be jaded that way either.

I am with you there. I remember going and seeing it with my friends after all the hype. We literally thought it was incredibly stupid and walked out of that movie saying WTF?

I didn't find the movie scary but that didn't bother me. It felt more like an action/virus movie than it did a zombie horror flick and that was fine by me. I didn't love it but I enjoyed it more than I expected. Very watchable IMO.

Just so it's clear, I was talking about WWZ not Blair Witch Project. I though the BW Project was boring and stupid. I thought WWZ was a little stupid but pretty fair action and they saved the movie by stopping just short of turning the annoying family into a movie-wrecker.

Just finished watching this. I thought it was a tad long but I really liked this movie. Glad I bought it. I would definitely watch this again.

Question. Was this based on a book and are their more stories?

This took the title of a book, but that's about it. It was literally NOTHING like it, save the fact that zombie like creatures were involved in both.

I think a lot of people are making the mistake of thinking this is a horror movie. For being an edge-of-your-seat thriller, I think it succeeded marvelously.

Not the best zombie movie by any means, but certainly well done when it comes to suspense and thrills.
