I still think Starling Marte is a very realistic scenario. So is Kevin Pillar or even Jarrod Dyson if we have to settle for mediocre. I don't want this team calling other teams' cast-offs the answer. That is a sure way to breed a losing culture.

I don't want to bring in a sub-par player at all, let alone give up assets for him, just because he is relatively young.

If we're going to apply that logic, let's trade Joel Payamps (also Age 25) for Max Scherzer.

Meanwhile, the reported package being offered by the Padres for Mookie Betts is either Manuel Margot or Josh Naylor, either Cal Quantrill or Joey Lucchesi, Wil Myers and some lower level prospects, with the Red Sox to cover a significant portion remaining on Myers' contract. The D-Backs can blow that package out of the water and barely make a dent in their farm system.
