I think he should get a chance but with today's tabloid, blow everything out of proportion, media, i can see where an NFL team doesn't want to put up with it. You know some sleazebag writer/ newspaper would probably have a headline reading FORTY-NINERS SIGN KNOWN SEX OFFENDER.

I really doubt the reason why teams have gone against picking this guy up is because they have personal reservations against what he has been convicted off. Though many will find the act this guy committed disgusted i think there are football people who can look past that if they feel it is something this kid has done in his past that he has dealt with and paid the penalty for. The problem is the backlash that the football club which picks him would face from their fans to a certain degree but even more so from the media which would slaughter the club and the guy to no end continously until the guys career ends and even beyond.

I think this PFT article covers the issue well and its this particular quote that gives the real reason why teams are just not comfortable with having a guy like Tony Washington on their team

I've been quiet on this, because frankly I don't want to see ignorant comments directed towards me, following my statement about it. Oh well.

I don't know anything about the kid's talent level so given that caveat...

Give this guy a break! He is being treated unjustly by the NFL and by the court of public opinion, including the majority of posters on this thread. To be ostracized as he is being, and to not be considered for the NFL draft because of his error in judgement, albeit a gross miscalculation, seven years ago at the age of 16, is unduely harsh. Leonard Little and Donte Stallworth are guilty of manslaughter, as adults, and they have been less harshly judged.

As I posted earlier in this thread - one scout spoke out on the situation and said the problem isn't what the guy did as a kid as much as the fact that the guy, looking back as an adult, doesn't believe he did anything wrong.

That is what would keep teams from having any interest.

And, BTW, Leonard Little is a murdering POS and should be ripped and heckled at every game he ever plays in. Years later - he drove drunk again (but thankfully didn't kill anyone else).

I dont know why people are even questioning Bryant about that issue that is most f'd up thing. Even if the stories are true its got nothing to do with Dez as he is no way responsible for any of that. Bryant has his own attitude problems which can be questioned but in no way should his mothers background be brought into question in regard to Bryants potential football career. Im no fan of Dez but that is just BS for people to bring that up.

I disagree. If the people that raised him made horrible decisions,it's likely those reflect on his decision making as well.

Bingo. This really is the issue. Fake remorse if you need to but not to see the fault in his actions suggests he doesn't have the common sense to field the questions and no team wants to knowingly put themselves in that position on such a taboo subject.

If this is water under the bridge from seven years ago where the heck was his agent seven months ago explaining exactly how to NOT defend his actions in interviews or public forums? Maybe he did and this kid is uncoachable. The talent level doesn't out weigh the risk factors and given what is said to be R2 talent that really says something about this kid because this is a league that has proven (by a handfull of teams) to care more about winning than behavior and even image (see Raiders).
