Anyone who was looking at the 2013 season and expecting to compete with Seattle or San Francisco was kidding themselves even if Whisenhunt had stayed. It was painfully obvious since October that a major portion of this roster had to go. I'm so glad to finally see it happening. This season was never about competing. It was about rebuilding. That's what needed to happen.
Will the Cards compete with SF and SEA this year no. Will they be better than some people are saying they will be this year? Definitely.
It was painfully obvious since October that we needed to replace four-fifths of our secondary? I have a hard time believing that many of us looked at our roster in
January and said, "You know what? These scrubs on the Top 5 pass defense in the NFL last year have to go. They clearly can't play anymore."
This would be a more convincing arugment if we'd used the money saved in cutting Wilson, Rhodes, and Gay to improve the offense, but instead we've completely tread water at RB and downgraded in talent at QB.
We're cheaper, I guess, but you can't even say that we're
better. How are you rebuilding when you're signing old players to replace guys that weren't under contract for 2014 anyway?
