A few hours after it was announced that Ryan Conwell would enter the transfer portal, news broke Friday afternoon that Xavier signee Nyk Lewis, a four-star point guard from Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C., was granted his release from the National Letter of Intent he signed in November with the school and will reopen his recruitment, according to Joe Tipton of On3 Sports.
Lewis committed to Xavier in August 2024. He signed with Xavier along with fellow four-star Jayden Forsythe in November.
According to 247Sports, Lewis is tabbed as the No. 3 overall player in Washington, D.C. for the Class of 2025.
Lewis was named the District of Columbia High School Basketball Player of the Year by MaxPreps earlier this month. Lewis averaged 12.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game last season to help lead Gonzaga (29-5) to a DCSAA Class AA championship.
Lewis picked Xavier over a handful of suitors. His lengthy offer sheet included a few of Xavier's Big East rivals in Georgetown, Creighton, Marquette, Providence and Seton Hall. He also held offers from Michigan, Maryland, LSU and Tennessee, among others.
