or, a slot WR

I cannot disagree more. DeJean is a finalist for defensive rookie of the year. Melton...isn't, and a blocking TE doesn't come close to making up the difference. This is classic Monti and why our roster isn't better than it should be by now.I would rather have Melton & Tip than DeJean which is what we got by trading back.
Good point!the other implication:
Jeremiah noted that players 20-60 were all the same -- implying there are 19 players at a tier above
what if at #16, the only remaining top tier players are...... offensive linemen? Projected guards? (Mebou and/or Booker)
just imagining draft day when the Cards take a guard at #16 (even though it was the "right" thing to do)
Touche! I would say that this is very much hindsight, however. MHJ was the biggest Big John (at the time, to me and many experts and posters). Given the above choice, sure, I would make that trade. The other problem with your premise is that Monti may well have not picked those players. A trade down doesn't guarantee he picks correctly.Would you rather have
MHJr (a "Big John")
or trade with the Vikings and end up with:
Jared Verse
Brian Thomas

I’m guessing no chance on a guardthe other implication:

Monti hasn’t shown ANY ability to identify the kind of talent those two guys have outside… even with top 6 picks in the first round, much less a lot lower in the first.Would you rather have

Mmmm . . . cheese dream . . .Cheese/Dream… are you guys fighting nice?
Dreaming of cheese is a nightmare. I freaking hate cheese unless it is necessary to complete a meal. Those that put on extra cheese on everything is blasphemous.Mmmm . . . cheese dream . . .
id be ok with a high end OTI’m guessing no chance on a guard
Not hitting on every single pick is not a complete lack of ability. The 2023 draft is definitely above your average draft class.Monti hasn’t shown ANY ability to identify the kind of talent those two guys have outside… even with top 6 picks in the first round, much less a lot lower in the first.
It’s more likely Monti drafts Keon Coleman and Darius Robinson than Verse/Thomas.
Again, for the billionth time on ASFN, no made this claim. Not hitting on every single pick is not a complete lack of ability. The 2023 draft is definitely above your average draft class.

A dietician once said “there are no redeeming qualities in cheese”. But damn it tastes good!Dreaming of cheese is a nightmare. I freaking hate cheese unless it is necessary to complete a meal. Those that put on extra cheese on everything is blasphemous.
With that said, I like Cheesebeef, no matter the beef we have about once a quarter.
Tell me again how many Big Johns Monti has drafted?Well....
Also: the post he quoted does nothing to refute or rebut @Ouchie-Z-Clown 's claim that no one is accusing Monti of failure because he doesn't "hit on every draft pick."Tell me again how many Big Johns Monti has drafted?
Not sure what kind of gotcha you think this is. Again, my point is Monti hasn’t been able to ID ANY STARS the level of Thomas/Verse in the draft. Please show me where he’s drafted a Brian Thomas/Jared Verse level talent who were STARS off the bat, one of them top 3 in yards/7th in TDs for ALL WRs and the other winning Defensive Rookie Of The Year.Well....
Considering most nfl defenses are in nickel 50% of the time or more one can hardly describe slot cb as a secondary position. Also: the post he quoted does nothing to refute or rebut @Ouchie-Z-Clown 's claim that no one is accusing Monti of failure because he doesn't "hit on every draft pick."
Monti's "above-average" 2023 draft class includes one very good player at a secondary position in Garrett Williams, one good player in Paris Johnson, two average-ish starters in Michael Wilson and Dante Stills, and a bunch of replacement-level players.
This is a pretty good draft class for a team with a solid foundation, but when you're trying to build up around almost nothing, it's a tough one.
I'd like to see Garrett Williams a lot more in the defense. It's not my decision to not feature what could well be our best defensive player: it's the head coach and defensive coordinator's. No reason in the world that Starling Thomas V plays more snaps than Garrett Williams.Considering most nfl defenses are in nickel 50% of the time or more one can hardly describe slot cb as a secondary position.
Except that he is in fact, in the secondary.
Goal post moving garbage. Not hitting on every single pick is not a complete lack of ability.

No reason that Williams can't move inside in nickel packages and play outside in the base.
He has been placed into a sub package role. That sub package role had him play 71.85% of defensive snaps in a healthy season. 5th most on the team. Only 6 games playing over 80% of snaps.Considering most nfl defenses are in nickel 50% of the time or more one can hardly describe slot cb as a secondary position.
