If Will Johnson is there at #16 he would be a terrific pick. I doubt he will be but I would have no problem with a pick like that.
Usually one or two players drops surprisingly - if it's a Will Johnson or Membou/Campbell, I think you have to consider it. Hell, I'd even consider Tet.

When's the last time there were this many high level edge prospects in one draft?

LOL

I don't think there's that much high level. I think it's lacking in 9's and 10's, but has a whole bunch of 7's.

Take BPA regardless of position. As much as I have beat the drum for a dominant level DT for years I am not locked into any one position. I think DT is so deep in this draft that BPA at #16 is very likely a DT.

A dominant level NFL DT prospect goes top 3, not at #16 though. At 16 were rolling the dice.

Chris Jones was drafted 37th overall
Cameron Hayward was drafted 31st overall
Dexter Lawrence was drafted 17th overall
Jalen Carter was drafted 9th overall

Those are All-Pro type players. Trust your scouting, not some random consensus.

Or if you passed on Chris Jones, don’t trust your scouting either

Mazi Smith was taken 26th
Javon Kinlaw 14th
Taven Bryan was 29th

All those teams trusted their scouting.

My point being at #16 there's no guarantee of what you get. Certainly no guarantee of dominance.

The draft is a crap shoot no matter where you pick and what position you pick. The higher you draft the better odds you have hitting it. But you still get odds.

Daniel Jermiah said -- my paraphrase -- that there are a couple guys everyone thinks are top 5 guys: Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter -- and after that one teams #3 guy might be another teams #23 guy. As a result, first round is entirely unpredictable

Just going off memory here, but last year Bowers, Latu, and Turner were all projected to go higher than they did.

In 2023, no one is really jumping out that seems to have slid very far.
Jalen Carter went 9 in 2023.

A bit of a slide, but weren't there some questions about him going in?
He and a girl were street racing after being seen leaving a club visibly impaired. The girl crashed, Carter called some friends to come help, then fled the scene. One of his teammates was in the car and died at the scene, and the driver died later in the hospital. One passenger who survived the crash heavily injured said Carter did not check on any of the passengers, attempt to help them himself, or even wait for help to arrive before he left.

He had previous reckless driving charges against him and also showed up to pre draft workouts very out of shape.

Before this he was considered the #1 prospect in the draft. The Raiders probably would have taken him if they hadnt just gotten through the Henry Ruggs experience. Leaving friends and teammates to die to avoid a drunk driving charge is a bit of a character concern.

Will Johnson having a down year then getting injured being the reason he fell to #16 would be anti-typical Cards luck. Getting him would be huge and he’s just a better prospect than the DL’s in that zone IMO.

Man I don’t know I think grant if available would be a safe pick…great character…takes up 2 blockers with pass rush upside….i just feel if we go will johnson he will turn his ankle walking to the commissioner to get his jersey…too injury prone ….
