2021 - Prove It
This would be frustratingIf he passed the physical and the opinion of our OL coach, I'm guessing Simmons of OSU with our first pick.

So you’ll be okay with an offensive lineman pick at 16?
I am thinking more and more that the pick is going to be Tyler Booker-guard Alabama and then trade back into end of first for Josh Simmons.
Long term Cards envision a dominating offensive line of:
Paris-Left Tackle
Booker-Left Guard
Froholdt-Center
Adams-Right Guard
Simmons-Right Tackle
There is a prevailing sentiment that OL will go early in this draft because there is a steep drop off after the first (ish) group.I am thinking more and more that the pick is going to be Tyler Booker-guard Alabama and then trade back into end of first for Josh Simmons.

but solidifying the OL for the next few years would be welcomed.I don't see the Cardinals taking 2 OL including trading up for one of them in this draft that is so deep along the DL. Not going to happen.
Here is the tough part. You are only getting Booker for 4 years, and then probably wouldn't re-sign him. If he struggles to win a starting spot or gets injured, that production is further reduced.but solidifying the OL for the next few years would be welcomed.

We've gone over this in this thread (I think): you're not exercising the fifth year option for a guard unless he's top 3 at his position and All-Pro.The original post said the Cardinals would trade back into the 1st for Simmons so both would have the 5th year option then.
This is an option. He might well have been the number two OT if not injured. This would be frustrating

If Booker turns out to be DJ Humphries quality (a solid starter but unlikely to be among the top 10 at his position), you probably decline the fifth-year option and have to franchise (I don't recall off the top of my head if that's even possible).
Because the 5th year option is guaranteed when picked up. The franchise tag gives you a whole other year to evaluate the guy if you’re not sure. Also Why would they forgo the 5th year option and then Franchise? That makes no sense.

he consistently has the pick on these lists.
I disagree with that sentiment. I haven't read anywhere that he was playing at the level of Campbell or Membou. This is an option. He might well have been the number two OT if not injured.
Kenyon Green was drafted by the Texans at pick 15 in 2022. He has been close to a bust and his 5th year option is for 16.685 mil. You picking that up? Zion Johnson was drafted by the Chargers with pick 17. He has been good. His 5th year option is 17.560 mil. You picking that up? Tyler Smith went pick 24 to the Cowboys. He has been very good and made 1 Pro Bowl His 5th year option is 21.272 mil.I don't remember that conversation but I don't fully agree. The fact is, the 5th year option will be available no matter who they select in the 1st round. Most teams who have selected a G in the 1st round recently (Pretty rare for a Guard) have used the 5th year option on players who proved that they can play.
2017 – No 1st round guards
2018 Quentin Nelson
2019 Chris Lindstrom
2020 – No 1st round guards
2021 - Alijah Vera-Tucker
Also Why would they forgo the 5th year option and then Franchise? That makes no sense.

Good hell. Both Simmons and Banks are nightmare fuel.#2

this feels like an overreactionGood hell. Both Simmons and Banks are nightmare fuel.
Must not read Mel Kiper, “Kiper continued. “Josh Simmons, as a left tackle, was well on his way this year to becoming maybe the third, fourth, fifth pick in the draft. But he didn’t finish out the year,” Kiper added. “He had cleaned up all the issues with penalties. He had developed into an elite left tackle. Probably ahead of Will Campbell had he been healthy, but he’s not, and when’s he going to be ready?”I disagree with that sentiment. I haven't read anywhere that he was playing at the level of Campbell or Membou.
