Well im certainly disappointed about the outcome of the Houston game but not because of the loss. The senior leadership on this team is questionable as of now. Rodgers and Adams killed the team by showing up late and Olsen made a example out of them. I love Lute for this reason, he tooka stand and the team should be better off for it. He could care less how many games he loses before Pac-10 play.....

Mao is right though. defensivly this team is superb and the offense is not clicking. This is not the usual Wildcats but like Mao, if i had to pick one of those traits to develop as the season progresses, its the offense. Shakur and Walters have disappointed so far but there is still time. Anway i would rather be 2-3 with this UA team than 4-0 with that grabge Rob Evans throws out there game after game.....We expect to succeed even with a killer schedule...
Devils get their panites in a bunch for beating Sonoma and Alcorn Stae (when did those two get added to the Union?)...Go Devils.....Maybe just maybe you guys will sneak into the NIT....

Nah.....

I love how when U of A loses in their best sport, Wildcat fans try to play it off like they knew it would happen and the team they lost to is better than people think, etc. I dont think I will live to see the day that U of A fans will admit that they got beat by a bad team, and that maybe they were a little overhyped. At least I can admit that ASU basketball has problems and aren't going to be anything special this year. God I love to see Lute with a losing record, it brings a smile to my face :D . Go Devils.

The other devil fans actually have a modicum of sensibility when it comes to posting on this subject, and once agian DPBAS steps up to make them all look fools. Seriously you guys should deport this guy befoe he gives ASU a bad name...

At least I can admit that ASU basketball has problems and aren't going to be anything special this year.

This has got to be a favorite statement of mine however. Really You can admit you didnt have expectations for ASU? Whats next, you going to "understand" the next time someone giggles when you hand them your degree during an interview? way go devil....Mao, boondock and I will make sure that when we ARE winning 25 games and whupping ASU by double digits, you will undertsand the wrath of a wounded cat..... Talk it up now big boy cuz it aint gonna last long.........

This is childish banter. If you guys enjoy personal attacks, fair enough.

You have to understand the circumstances of it though. The thread is "Zona Basketball '06". How did you think that UofA fans would react to you bashing the team?

Secondly, I did not take your comments to be especially hurtful (I cannot personally speak for the rest though). I don't take the internet seriously (hence the "kisses :D “and "Kiss my grits" comments made after all my posts). I understand it is rival banter and I was just rolling with it.

:biglaugh:

Personal attacks!? Im making fun of your school....

You come into the Zona thread to run your mouth and now you want to come down on me for "personal attacks"...I would never have singled you out if you would have carried yourself like BIM and SDS and admitted that this is just a chance to pile on for the moment...You on the other hand are delusional....

ooops....

:biglaugh:

But seriously this is the internet. I am going to back my school and my teams all day long.....If you try to bring down my beloved "U" Im going to say something, esp. when im defensive and bitter that we are 2-3...No chance bud, stick to the ASU gymnastics threads.....

I only caught bits and pieces of the game, but man Mustafa Shakur is horrible. This might be the only time this has ever occurred in Arizona-ASU basketball history, but I think I'd rather have Kevin Kruger or Antwi Atuahene than Shakur. And I thought Gardner was the worst point guard of the Lute Olson era.

Prediction: Arizona will lose at home on Saturday to St. Mary's. After this season, ASU will hire Gaels coach Randy Bennett and the victory on Saturday will become a rallying cry for the ASU fans who will note that with less talent Bennett will have beaten Lute just as many times as Evans did.

And word out of Tucson is Jawaan McClellan might not become eligible this season at all. If this is the case, the Cats are 1st or 2nd round NCAA exit team at best.

Only a Wildcat could predict a home loss for his team and still find a way to dis ASU at the same time......

Out of respect to the balance of your post, I don't think this is the game that Arizona will lose. SMC has only played three games (one against a DIII team) and hasn't looked all that great.

Arizona is listed as 17 point favorite in this morning's paper.

30 point win at Utah?

Good thing I didn't get to a computer this morning and post that this may be the loss for Arizona that MaoTosiFanClub talked about last Saturday.

It wasn't like I was completely off on Saint Mary's. We were down seven at halftime.

No you were close....I was just saying that, given they way Arizona has played so far this year, I was totally surprised at today's margin of victory.

UA needs OT to beat Western Kentucky at home....
Strange game. Down seven at halftime but up 10 with about two minutes to go when WKU decided to stop missing threes and we decided to stop making free throws. Arizona's defense continues to be terrific this season so we'll find ourselves in basically every game, I'm just waiting for the offense and rebounding to come along. And I'm not holding my breath with this frontcourt.

Lute looks like he's going to try going small with freshman phenom Marcus Williams going into the starting lineup replacing Kirk Walters. It won't matter next weekend against two smaller Washington teams, but I don't see it working over the long haul.

I think it will work ok in the Pac 10, the bigger question is how it will work in the tournament?

if you look, the top 2 teams in the pac 10 right now record wise are UW and UCLA. UW's tallest starter is 6'7", Jensen and/or Brockman. UCLA's tallest starter right now is 6'8" Wright or Mata. Hollins is 6'11" and Fey 7 foot but it looks more and more like Howland is phasing them out. UCLA's leading rebounder is Mbah Mboute who's 6'6" or 6'7". Eventually Shipp at about 6'4" will be starting at SF.

Stanford has the only really good C in the conference, Haryasz. Most teams in the conference play 3 guards. Cal has the best frontline in the conference with Powe, Hardin and Benson.

So in the conference having a 6'7" kid alongside 3 guards won't be a huge disadvantage if he can get some rebounds. I think the main question will be on defense, Williams is pretty skinny, put him on Powe man to man and he'll give up 40 points, but I suspect Lute will be smart enough to play more zone if he goes small, assuming you can rebound out of zone. Plus, having a guy like Hassan Adams who's built like a PF will certainly help.

Wide open conference, hell even USC beat North Carolina last night.

I was at the game, and talking with people (a friend of mine is a manager for the cats), we talked about how the talent is there, but the go-to guy isn't. Down the stretch the Cats couldn't stop the WKU run because they had nobody to take the shot.

Losing Salim hurt in that regard, because Adams simply cannot do it. The guy is a freakish athlete, but an average basketball player, as his skills are limited.

On a positive note, Marcus Williams has been playing well of late, so well that he will be starting against the Washington schools next week, according to Lute.

Radenovic needs to ride the bench. I cannot stand his weak defense, pathetic shooting, and poor rebounding anymore. He has a good game once in a while, but other than that he is useless. Not only does he think he can shot but he just might be the ugliest human being I have ever seen. Get this peice of trash off the floor.

When does McClellan get back? Please tell me he is passing all of his classes.
