Are you talkin' to me? :p

I don't just eat plants, silly. Geesh, if I did, I would weigh 100 pounds instead of, well, what I weigh now. :p

I never liked the idea of eating animals. I'll never forget how mortified I was at the age of five when my mom told me where my McDonald's hamburger came from.

When I was older, maybe 10, I spent the night at my cousin's house. They had a farm with livestock and everything. One day we were playing with the pigs, the next day we were eating pigs for breakfast. It just didn't jive with me.

In high school, I took a public speaking class and had to give a speech on a controversial issue. I picked animal rights. Did a lot of research into it and that pretty much sealed the deal.

I think the last red meat I had was filet mignon at my senior prom in 1990. Giving up meat was hard, because I enjoyed it, but some times you gotta do hard things in order to reconcile yourself with your principles. I don't eat anything with a face. Eggs and dairy are fair game though.

I thought with arthur only eating veggies he was too so I figured we had a few..

Buy your reply is one I was expecting.. Animals will eat us too if they had a chance.. I once saw a faces of death movie where a grizzly chomped down on a dudes head.. That was nasty as well.. So I really dont care about animal rights.. If it tastes good Imma eat it.. Cuz they will kill and eat us if given the chance..

We have a few vegetarian friends. One actually is no longer a vegetarian..she ate meat as a kid but then decided not to as a teen. But when she got pregnant she was craving steak (protein probably) and had it...turned 12 years of no meat on its head.

Another friend of ours became vegetarian around 11 or so...she isn't really concerned so much about the animals, but the texture just bugged her to death...she can't handle the texture of meat. She raises her daughter vegetarian but that isn't taking...she eats chicken fingers and such and loves it. She's a hop, skip and jump from eating a steak. Especially hanging with my little girl who likes her steak just under medium...and LOVES steak.

I get vegetarians...but vegans...damn...that is STRICT.

See, I can understand being a vegetarian for religous purposes.. But because of animal cruelty I cant.. Alot of animals would gladly eat the crap outta us if given the chance..

Sorry Jersey Girl, thats how I think.. And Im not trying to bust your balls over your way of thinking, just saying.. :)

Vegans won't eat any products that involved animals at all (milk, cheese, eggs, etc.) Vegetarians like Wendy just won't eat anything that "has a face"...

I'm cool with vegitarians because one time one saved my dog from distemper and didn't charge me.

But you'd have a hard time using that logic with the animals that you most likely eat. Cows chickens and pigs are all domesticated animals and by nature are herbivores. You could argue that natural selection helped in the domestication process, as those three animals, without evolving themselves into a species raised strictly for food would have eventually overpopulated themselves and ensured their own demise. In allowing themselves to be domesticated, and raised for food for a being higher on the food cchain, they have ensured their survival as a species. They have achieved an ironic yet highly effective sybiosis with humans. HOWEVER, there are certainly animal rights issues at stake when eating meat, and unless you really want to hear them I wont go into heavy detail. Ive been on this soapbox pretty hard for the past few months. I agree with you that taste is the ultimate determinant for whether or not I'll eat something, but there are environmental, economical, and most assuredly individual health issues involved when talking about how we raise our animals for food. Hunting is different for sure, in terms of an us vs them philosophy about eating, but thats a whole nother ball of wax.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine.

I got no problem with the way you think. Like I said, to each his own. I really don't care what anyone eats. I'm a very "live and let live" kinda gal.

Thats madness. You do know that there is the beginning of a litlle chicky in that egg dont you jersey? ;)

I don't think it's madness. To me, it is not a little chicky, kinda like to me an embryo isn't a baby. (Not trying to get all political here, people. Just explaining my rationale is all.)

Vegans are annoying. We were just watching Supersize Me and the guys girlfriend really annoys me with her anti-meat talk. I don't mind vegetarians though...more meat for us.

Why do they bother you so much?
Just all the talk about animal rights and why meat is bad and all that stuff. I don't want to be lectured about food. If it's tasty then ima eat it. I LOVE meat. :)

I don't like to think about it either. But don't you feel there are some nuggets of truth in what they are saying? Seriously, you have to concede that the meat industry is pretty disgusting when you let yourself think about it. And I'm no vegan - I had some bird for lunch today. I wish I had the dedication to go vegetarian because I'm sickened by how the meat industry goes about it's business.

I've seen cows and chickens being tortured...but it's just way too good to give up.
