The game of basketball can humble you. Hopefully it's a lesson learned.

As previously noted on another thread, the Mavericks have stocked up on point guards.

McKinley Wright IV played for the summer Suns in Las Vegas.

Cam Johnson is still wearing a wrap on his right thumb/wrist.

Monty admits there is an emotional component in playing the Mavericks.

I don't know Ayton, but how can he not feel some sort of happiness that Sarver will be gone? I think he has to focus on being MORE physical in regards to getting offensive position to score, and on rebounds. He has touch on the hook shot and mid range. He needs to start looking at stats, which I know they tell most players not to do, and he needs to think 25 and 15, especially in big games. He needs to statistically up his game to the next level. Especially if he ever wants to be on an All Star team or earn all NBA honors.

He should really be at 22 and 12 this year imo.

Here is the Phoenix Suns opening night roster for the 2022-23 season:

Point Guard: Chris Paul, Cam Payne, Duane Washington Jr. (TW)

Shooting Guard: Devin Booker, Damion Lee, Landry Shamet, Josh Okogie

Small Forward: Mikal Bridges, Ish Wainright (TW)

Power Forward: Cam Johnson, Torrey Craig, Dario Saric, Jae Crowder (IL)

Center: Deandre Ayton, Jock Landale, Bismack Biyombo

Notes:

Needless to say, some players will play more than one position.

The Suns have one regular open roster spot. Jae Crowder is on the inactive list.

We are currently lacking quality depth. I hope at least some of that is resolved with what we get for Crowder.

Bench shooting will likely be a problem at guard and forward.

With Landry Shamet out, the Suns will need Cam Payne to be on target.

I hope Monty is willing to give Duane Washinton Jr. some minutes.

And plenty of scorers in the starting line up. Until we acquire a better power forward, I say start Dario for his D and passing, and bring Cam off the bench ---for his scoring

The Suns have made up their mind that Cam Johnson will be their starting power forward.

Dario is very versatile, but he is generally at a disadvantage defensively against quicker power forwards. His strength is as a small ball center, where he can score inside and out, pass and rebound.

Dario can play some power forward against certain lineups, but his strength is as a backup center. The problem is, he has a couple of good centers ahead of him in Ayton and Landale.

I can almost hear the crickets chirping. I'd think there would be more excitement for the season opener against the Mavericks than this.

Maybe it's because the Suns didn't really make any big off season moves, the pending sale of the team and the drama surrounding the contracts of Deandre Ayton, Jae Crowder and Cam Johnson.

It feels almost like a hangover from last season. Maybe it is.
