I read this on facebook and thought it was worth sharing.
The D-backs just completed a three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins, despite being outhit in all three games. For the series, Arizona scored 22 runs on 24 hits, and Miami scored 15 runs on 33 hits. Imagine outhitting your opponent by 9 in a three-game series... and losing all three games.
The D-backs are 35-12 this season when they hit at least two home runs in a game, as they did Wednesday night,. When they hit at least one, they are 60-25. When they are held without a home run, they are 12-31 (2-16 on the road).
Much has been made of the D-backs' success scoring in the first inning. However, not much has been said about their virtual dominance in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings on the road. In those innings, away from Chase Field, they are outscoring the opposition, 122-79, including 52-27 in the 9th inning alone.
Jordan Montgomery struggled yet again on Wednesday, but yet again, the D-backs won anyway. He has stumbled to a 6.44 ERA in 19 starts... yet the D-backs are 12-7 in those games, the highest winning percentage among pitchers currently in the starting rotation, with the exception of Eduardo Rodriguez (3-0).
Geraldo Perdomo seems to have really found his stroke at the plate. Since July 29, he has hit safely in 16 of 21 games, raising his average from .246 to .281. He has 8 multi-hit games over that period, including three in the last four games. Only Jake McCarthy has more since 7/29 with 9.
Congrats to Jose Herrera for getting his first MLB triple Wednesday night. That first career MLB home run is hopefully right around the corner.
