I'm ok with a great guard if Booker is a safe pick. Everyone seems to indicate he starts day 1 and plays solid for years..I'm good with that pick as long as there isn't a better pass rusher there. Like a dbl digit edge guy.
I'll be pretty upset of both Nolan and Grant are on the board and we go OG instead...

Im mixed. I want a dominant defense. But with question marks regarding Hernandez I cant help but get PTSD flashbacks of that seattle d line meeting kyler at the top of his dropback because our guards were insufficient. Kyler, more than any QB I have ever seen, gets really antsy when the middle of the line is weak...so a guard would be okay at 16..positional value be damned...so long as the guy is legit and maybe gets 6 or 7 pro bowl nods and plays a decade without serious injury.

IMO you’ll have to get used to Murray being jittery. If he hasn’t got past that by now, he never will. He sometimes anticipates pressure that doesn’t even exist. It does behove the Cards to develop the strongest line possible, but he seems to lack confidence though he claims to be in control. Fortunately his agility and speed allow him to get away with breaking up a play. I think the best strategy is an impenetrable defense.

yeah its in his makeup. but there is a very noticeable difference between his confidence in the pocket when Will Hernandez was playing versus after Hernandez went out. The trust was gone...

Would have been a good scheme fit if they had not drafted Darius Robinson, signed Calais Campbell and re-signed Collier. Now, not so much. Plus, a super-talented DT with maturity-issues from Ole Miss? I still have PTSD after Nkemdiche.
I will have even more issues if they do something stupid like draft one of the boys from A&M based on athletic measurables but subpar performance doing the actual sport of football

why haven't we re-signed hernandez? because monti already spent a whole bunch of money? because he can get the best guard in the draft for far cheaper and incredibly longer that isn't coming off surgery? we like hernandez but we liked kyzir too - we already re-signed zae jones - if we were going to re-sign hernandez... are we going to re-sign hernandez?

Monti tried to add Fries, so the position is clearly still a focus area.

So thinking yes. But as you state. We do not know.

Brown was excellent last year, but he is not as good as the production on the field showed IMO, which the contract number also indicates. He benefitted from playing between Froholdt and PJJ and when Hernandez went down and Froholdt had to compensate right instead of left, Brown’s play dipped. I see Brown as a very good back-up.

A starting guard is needed whether that is Hernandez or a high draft pick

Overall I agree. What makes it interesting for me is that I believe #16 range is where that slightly better player would fall to.
If one of the two CBs, one of the two TEs, the next WR, Jihaad Campbell. This is the range for other to go up and get them.

For me, Green and Walker would be the prize at #16. If Campbell or Membou falls - draft them. If they are not there, what is the difference in quality of Mykel Williams, Ezuruaku and Pierce? What is the difference in quality of Grant and Nolan? What is the difference in quality in Banks and Simmons? If you trade down to 19,20,21,22 (the teams that are rumored to be looking at a specific player and position) a very good player would still be be there.

The case of Shemar Stewart is more nuanced than only the box score. He was much more disruptive than people can see from stats. Also, the draft is about potential, and you can argue that Stewart has the biggest potential of any player in the draft.

Should we talk more about Benjamin Morrison? Just because nobody is. Seems like a solid round 2 option to me.

Phoenix native. Comes from a family of athletes. Ball hawk. Was certainly a top 2 CB and 1st round pick before his injury. Has a workout at Brophy Prep on the 21st.

Ben Morrison at #47 might be better value than Will Johnson at #16.

If Grant is staring them in the face, but they instead take an offensive player (any offensive player), I will start crying. Grant is potentially exactly what they need.
I’m getting more and more hooked on Banks.

Perfect scheme fit. Play him at RG and move him out next year.

I would prefer an edge due to the immediate impact, but I would take Banks over Grant

For @Gandhi and draft nerds.

Check the Mike podcast has a 2,5h podcast rating the edge class. Super insightful.

Spoiler rating:
1. Carter
2. Green
3. Walker (but have to fit the scheme due to LB size)
4. Ereiruako
5. Pierce Jr.

Stewart and Mykel Williams have the metrics but not the production to be locks as 1st round talent.

And followed up with a podcast on the 10 biggest sleepers.

Banks is an OT
A LT that has been talked about being moved to G.

Him never playing on the right side in his football career(even dating back to HS) expecting him to flourish is an extremely huge risk this team better not take.

Disagree. Do you think PJJ was a disaster as a rookie? Moving sides is not that difficult. College teams put their best player at blindside. That doesn’t mean he’s a blind side in the NFL. Just that he was the best player at Texas

His capabilities fit better as the front side. He is solid but not elite in pass protection and an absolute beast in the run game.

No prominent OT wants to move to guard. While the slot locks his early money, long term it’s financially a mistake. He’s pretty much viewed as LT only as far as side. Johnson looks good on the left and likely stays there for many years. I don’t think an early first rounder would appreciate a guard move.
