Suns @ Celtics game thread 12-2-17

It's been a while since I've had the opportunity to complain about officiating. There just hasn't been any reason to. I forgot how bad they can really get. There were about 5 fouls called in the 4th that were phantom at best.

Suns @ Bulls game thread 11-28-17

Ewwww... I always forget we threw away a pick with Ennis as our 4th PG that year. Could've had Hood or Harris. (I wanted Hood at #14) Thanks for the correction. Disagree about Len being a bust. The definition of "bust" differentiates from person to person. I believe a bust is a guy...

Suns @ Bulls game thread 11-28-17

As PFKK eluded to, an aspect that often goes missing when discussing draft prowess by a GM is "Who else should they have drafted?" Said differently, "Who'd they miss out on?" It's also very helpful looking at redrafts to gain perspective. (In parenthesis I put a rough estimate on Gain vs Loss...

Suns @ Pistons game thread 11-29-17

I didn't watch nearly as many games last year, so I have a question for you (and anyone else that did). Did Chriss look like this last year regarding his attitude? I watched every ounce of the summer league and I would have told him to go home based solely on his attitude. He's been better...

Ugh. We might only score 70 tonight. Troy needs to have a big day. Feed TJ and Monroe all day.

    TJ Warren now

Funny, I'm usually all over guys who don't pass, but I missed this. I guess I just accept that his role on this team right now is to lower his head and attack the basket with reckless abandon. I suppose over time, that'll have to change.

    Josh Jackson

This has even more value when you consider that Josh is getting bigger assignments than Tatum or Ball. After all, if I hold Kobe Bryant to 37.8% then I'm an amazing defender. But if Ricky Rubio gets 37.8% on me, I'm the worst defender in the history of time.

The 2017-2018 Around the NBA thread

This is true. That's mostly because some prospects are so arrogant they think can just show up and it'll all work out. Ball is one such. The Lakers actually said they won't alter his shot. I sure hope they don't. He needs to keep shooting that horrendous shot of his. LeBron is one...

The 2017-2018 Around the NBA thread

One thing to add about Bender: the dude has heart. One of the hardest things to measure in a prospect is heart. Bender shows it on the court, constantly. Whether it's after he hits a three or when he tries to lock down a G on D, the dude goes all out. Anybody watch Ball or Fultz play and...

Bucks @ Suns game thread 11-22-17

Jackson's passing skills are natural, although his numbers don't remotely reflect that. He actually flashes high IQ passes on certain plays. That is, when he's not dribbling off his leg in the half court set. I'm not concerned in the least. He's going to get better with time. We are...

The 2017-2018 Around the NBA thread

Count me in to the group that wants a championship. Signing Blake or Millsap would have never garnished that. Never. We need to make smart decisions that help Booker flourish. He's our best bet at winning it all.

    How good is Booker?

Steph is not a great passer. Flashy, yes. Great, no. Currently he's 22rd on the PG list this season for A/TO ratio. His career averages are 6.8 apg to 3.2 topg. At 2.16 a/to ratio, he's right behind Jason Terry (2.17). That's hardly next-level or eye-popping or even "couple times per...

    How good is Booker?

It's a decent comp, but I actually think he's potentially better than Reggie. Reggie almost exclusively got his shots off of screens and roll outs. He relied on his teammates to get him the ball. Devin can score all over and can do so much more around the basket.

    How good is Booker?

(Ouchie, I moved the Booker talk back over here, which seemed more on topic) I agree with JC. He has all the tools to be a stellar player IF we get the right pieces around him. What frees up Steph Curry to do what he does? He's a poor defender, but he has so many defensive studs around him...

    Dare I say the "T" word . . . ?

Completely agree. But he could be a Paul Pierce, which isn't too shabby. Or even Steph Curry. The thing that makes Steph able to do so much on O is because he has a stellar D around him. I don't see why Devin couldn't be similar if he had a D minded true PG and a fully developed Josh Jackson.

    Dare I say the "T" word . . . ?

...and develop a thirst for winning. It's alright to lose when you're outmatched. But go into off season with a laser focus to never be outmatched again. Jordan did it after losing to Detroit. LeBron did it after losing to Dallas. Booker looks like he's ready to do it now.

    Josh Jackson

So after seeing Josh play for 17 games here are some thoughts: I love his fire, but it isn't focused. I'd love to see Triano minimize his green lights and solidify his role. He just is trying to do too many things and he isn't excelling at any of them. At this point I'd tell him to only...

    Value of our assets

The biggest problem we have is that we are in a GM downward spiral on trades. We continually trade low on our assets. We traded low on Morris, Dragic, IT, and Bledsoe. 3 of them were disgruntled BEFORE we traded them. The FO waits to last possible worst minute to make a trade. Our best...

    TJ Warren now

True, I am getting ahead a little. I'm just trying to look down the road a bit to see what our grand scheme is for winning a championship. (I'm pretty sure the FO has no idea what that looks like.) And years from now, I just don't see Booker and Warren together as a viable championship duo...

    TJ Warren now

This team just gave up 90 points in the first half. Ulis was bad. Booker was bad. Chriss was bad. Warren was far from the problem on defense. Although Monroe was solid, and Jackson had moments. I'm not low on Warren, I'm high on Booker. I was a huge Cedric Ceballos fan and no player...

    TJ Warren now

All the rebuttals you guys mentioned are offensive natured. I have very few problems with our offense. If Warren only played O I'd be fine with him and Booker playing together. But they obviously don't. Just because he gets us 20 pts/gm doesn't mean he helps us win. What if he gives up 30...
  22. Raze

    TJ Warren now

The problem with Warren currently is that he is a poor compliment to Booker. He's an above average scorer and a below average defender. (Every game I yell at the TV due to his lack of defensive IQ). Booker is an elite scorer and is approaching the level of an average defender. They have...

Lakers @ Suns game thread 11-13-17

Bill Simmons is a Celtic Die Hard. Of course he thinks Channing Tatum is the best. Kuzma and Smith should be in the discussion. But it's very close at this point.
  24. Raze

    How good is Booker?

Booker is blowing up the eyeball test. He's not just shooting well, he's scoring well... and in a variety of ways. Full court pull ups. Catch and shoot off curls. Driving while pinning his man on his opposite hip for layups. Fadeaways. Low post hooks. Power dribble two foot power finishes...

    Point guard solutions

Or, there is the possibility that we run an Offense similar to the Triangle under Jackson where Davon Reed (or someone like) could be the Ron Harper type "PG".
