Watched last night and yes a lot of Kliff.
Show doesn't do him any favors. Comes off as a total bonehead and several references to his (and Sumlin's) lack of discipline towards JFF and A&M program in general. Also the obligatory filming background of his over-the-top modern beach pad in LA.
And to reiterate - caving to the CA schools and not absorbing the best of the Big 12 two years ago when UT/OU left was when the die was actually cast. Yes Larry Scott, Directv, ten years of mediocre football play by USC, etc started the process but none of that matters if they had simply...
This is 1000% true. Big-time sports attracts students including out of state ones which stay here after they graduate. Definitely helping said growth, any of us who went to one of the state schools I’m sure knows several Midwesterner’s who came to the AZ as 18 year old’s and never left. On...
Would’ve never held up in court. If either school unilaterally left nothing the BoR couldn’t done since it was for more money. School presidents have some sort of fiduciaries with taxpayers in this regard.
A group of presidents (UC schools, Stanford, USC, ASU, UW) rejected expansion into the Big12 meanwhile all of them (sans ASU) were simultaneously maneuvering to get into the Big 10. Crow the only dope who thought he was actually allied with those schools. Robbins once LA schools left knew it...
You’re forgetting the market also spoke and that while you say “nobody wanted” the Big 12 you don’t mention that ESPN/Fox are giving them $32 post OU/Texas departure while same channels offered the PAC exactly zero dollars post USC/UCLA.
So who exactly does nobody want again? I think y’all...
At end of the day the Arizona schools have nobody to blame but themselves. Churning out mediocre to bad football programs for last 25 years certainly wasn’t helping any cause.
I thought all would be well though if they didn’t take the Big 12 deal??? Karpman is as plugged into ASU and NCAA athletics as anyone out there so he realizes the obvious truth in that missing this train is an essential death sentence.
This has gotta be a tough pill for Michael Crow to...
Five PAC-12 championships and four Elite 8’s after Lute btw. Basically every program in the conference would kill for that sort of production over a fifteen year stretch in both in hoops and football.
And yea I realize zero Final 4’s.
I guess you're right if you assume Oregon, Washington, and Stanford are still conference participants when in reality they have one or two feet out the door. It's either TCU, Kansas, Baylor, or Wazzu, Oregon State, and San Jose State.
If you guys think ASU on CBS Sports Network at 8pm playing New Mexico State will be able to compete with any Big 12 school with 3x the budget playing on ESPN and Fox I don’t what to tell you.
Fortunately for you guys I’d bet that Crow gets dragged kicking and screaming into the Big12 since...
Ah I see now where the spin is going for ASU fans. “Better to be Fresno State than Purdue.”
There’s no administrator in college sports who thinks that by the way. That extra $10-20M a year funds a lot of big ticket items around campus and the added exposure brings a lot more applicants...
There’s a major lack of fundamental economic and college athletic realities going on here. It’s really this for both Arizona schools:
1. the Big 12 and around $50M a year or:
2. a Pac-Mountain West bizarro hybrid conference that only broadcasts games on ESPN Ocho for $10M
The Big 10 and SEC...
