Chris Karpman does a YouTube video on the Big 12 discussion.

I wonder what happens if there are some last minute moves by other teams and conferences.

Could Oregon or Washington change the equation?

The PAC 12 blew this when they did their last television package and their failure to expand if teams like Texas and Oklahoma were available.

I might be more of a risk-taker if Michael Crow wasn't President at ASU.

Conference realignment looks to be the new NIL.

Probably a good thing.

Without the LA schools or starts to put AZ schools in an island.

I too would like to see someone like SDSU jump with them.

I'm not sure if future big 12 has an existing pair with the credibility of UW & Oregon, but I'm not sure if future Pac 12 has them either........

There is a basis for a pretty solid regional division that could be entertaining with ASU, UA, BYU, Utah, Colorado

I saw this on a different board and I don't think it looks terrible

Just too bad the PAC couldn't get their media right and be more aggressive to shore up and expand their conference earlier

Big 12 West

Arizona
Arizona State
Kansas
KSU
Iowa State
BYU
Utah
Colorado

Big 12 East

Baylor
TCU
West Virginia
Houston
UCF
Texas Tech
Cincinnati
Oklahoma State
There won’t be divisions. Conferences are moving away from the divisional format

Tech and TCU make sense, but alternatively I could see a pod system.

West: ASU, BYU, UofA, Utah
Plains: CU, ISU, KSU, KU
South: Baylor, OSU, TCU, TT
East: UC, UCF, UH, WV

9 game schedule. You play everyone in your pod every year and then play two teams from the other pods every year. You have a home and away with every team not in your pod every 4 years.
Makes sense since they will not break it into actual divisions

It looks like Utah may have run out of options other than the Big 12.

Considering that UofA has been talking to Yormark for months, this is BS. The Big-12 would gladly take UofA on its own. You really need to stop lying to yourself. Just be happy that you’re staying in a big boy conference instead of being relegated to the future G5 conference.
ABOR could have blocked it I presume? Forget whatever lawsuits might have managed from blocking it but I believe that is in their power

The best they could do is impose a fine much like CBOR did to UCLA. Either way, it would’ve been stupid to punish UofA for ASU’s incompetence.

ABOR absolutely could block it - no conference realignment without ABOR approval.

Would’ve never held up in court. If either school unilaterally left nothing the BoR couldn’t done since it was for more money. School presidents have some sort of fiduciaries with taxpayers in this regard.

ABOR has the state constitution behind it - final decision maker on everything at the State's universities. UA can't add a program without ABOR approving.

And if it is + for one school, - for another, no case anyways

Why wouldn't Utah want to be in the same conference as BYU? Is that hatred that bad?

Yeah, it gets nasty but I'm not sure if that is the main issue

Could be more with market, local rights, sponsorships, etc

I was just up there a could weeks ago and went to the BYU campus - they were all pretty jazzed about joining the Big 12 and didn't seem to be that many upset about dropping the independence

As Mao stated, if the BOR tried to overstep its authority, the courts would overturn it quickly.

Plus, do you honestly think that Robbins didnt keep the ABOR abreast of the situation and consult them on a possible move? Confident in saying that even if ASU didnt choose to jump ship, the ABOR wouldn’t offer any resistance. It would do no one any good to block a move for literal self-preservation, especially since a) Robbins consulted Crow on the move and b) Gave Kliakov several opportunities to provide an offer that makes sense for everyone

Yes it is.
BYU has been playing the victim in BIG 12 circles crying about how mean Utah and their fans are and how Utah has tried to keep them down as if BYU ever had a chance of getting approved by the CA schools.

The BIG 12 will learn who the more difficult schools and fanbase is.

Would they allow Arizona to move without ASU?

If they present their case well, yes

If they said no, when you have a have a legal standing to sue?

Doubtful

The application of Arizona has been approved for the Big 12.

Sounds like there will be one last ditch meeting to salvage the PAC 12 conference. Michael Crow will reportedly attend that meeting.
