    Prinz's groin injury

They said on the TV pre-game (yes I got to watch on MLB TV) that Hammock probably was only up until Colorado, since you always need a lot of pitchers at Coors Field. I suspect they weren't sure who to bring up so they'll see who is pitching well in relief at Tucson and then bring him up. Yes...

    Dbacks Win!

Re: Re: Dbacks Win! Amen John. Brenly left Curt out one inning too many. He threw 113 pitches. There were some other examples of leaving aces in too long - Matt Morris and Kevin Millwood both went one inning too many.

    I'm ready for some baseball.

Well after he pops up three times in a row for several games we'll see if you still feel the same way.

    Lyle Overbay

Do you think you could give him at least a week before you give up on him? I imagine he's pressing. Okay Zenny, you can comment that you'd have more confidence that he can turn it around if Dwayne Murphy wasn't the hitting coach.

    Matty on third

I have no clue why BB wouldn't start Counsell against a RHP. Not that it would have made any difference. Caught the end of the game on MLB tv and the D-Backs looked pretty clueless up there against him. Surprising as that's they way they usually look against lefties.

    Pedro Gomez is leaving

Gee thanks, you guys are inflicting Pedro on the rest of the country. Just what we need. Not surprising though, he's been kissing ESPN butts for a while and desiring to make a move upward. I hope he covers other sports more than he does baseball. Actually I found this to be the...

    Transactions/roster

This from ESPN's transactions answers all the roster questions I believe This should leave a roster of: Pitchers - 11 Johnson Schilling Dessens Kim Villareal Mantei Batista Myers Koplove Prinz Randolph Position Players Moeller Barajas Grace Overbay Spivey Counsell...

    Patterson optioned & Swindell gone

Wow. Have to admire the D-Backs. Willing to cut their salary losses and willing to give the reward to the youngster who pitches the best. Brenly sure is not afraid to put a youngster in there if he likes him. Doesn't complete answer the questions, but clears up the bullpen a bit. Can't wait...

OT: Welcome to the Bizzaro Clubhouse

Spoken like a former member of the Red Sox nation. I didn't get the Clemen's jokes, seriously. I thought the Wells and Bonds ones were funny.

    Some positive for a change...

Kurkjian picks the D-Backs over the A's if that makes you feel any better.

    D-Backs Preview by ESPN

You said it yourself. Bob Brenly is not Dusty Baker. He will have patience with the kids. However, he'll ride the hot hand, too. So if Grace is hot and Overbay isn't he'll play Grace until he cools off. Dusty Baker would never have let the World Series ride in the hands of a 22 year old...

    Tejada Done In Oakland?

Wow, how insane was THAT contract? I can't believe they gave him a player option and with his injury history. I'm really surprised.

    Tejada Done In Oakland?

The amount the D-Backs will save in salary is far more than the increases. Adding up Matty, Womack, Swindell and Mantei (no way D-Backs take the option with the good relief prospects they have) more than makes up for the increases increases - we're talking $20 mil on those four. All the...

    Here's the latest cuts

I like the Way More Sports site too. I keep forgetting that they have stats on minor leaguers who are on the 40 man rosters, even if they've never been in the majors. The nicest thing about that site is that they list all of the transactions so you get a really nice history as well as the minor...

    State of the Art Stats

I agree with you on both points, the Yankees and the Braves. One cannot understimate the significance of Andruw in the outfield, he's amazing. Perhaps it's long most things in life - balance and well-roundedness. Can't completely ignore defense, but a great defense won't help you win if the...

Diamondbacks Sign Gonzalez To Three-year Extension

Whatever, because of course Rob Neyer is never wrong. Look back in 2001 the D-Backs were old. They had some hefty contracts that were too long. That's in the past. Okay? They won a World Series, BTW. Since then they have gotten rid of Stottlemyre, Bell, Reynoso, Morgan. After this year they...

Diamondbacks Sign Gonzalez To Three-year Extension

Weren't the Giants older than the D-Backs last year. I can't believe Rob Neyer is talking the old junk. The D-Backs have gotten younger this year, and got younger last year and will be even younger next year. So why does he keep talking the old crap just because less than a handful are old...

    Here's the latest cuts

I have asked this question before and been told by those who understand the rules more than me that they have to actually be "optioned" to the minors. Any year where someone is on the 25 man roster the whole year does not count as an option year. Course that's when the major league service days...

    Here's the latest cuts

It looks like he was taken in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft. If a player is put on the AAA team before the draft, he must be put on the 25 man roster for a whole year. If he is on a roster below AAA, then he is a minor league Rule 5 player. To be honest I'm not sure what a...

    Here's the latest cuts

It's my understanding that you have to have been optioned down 3 times after you are put on the 40 man roster. I believe each year that you are in the minors is an option year by definition. So once you are put on the 40 man roster and you spend any portion of that year in the minors it's...

Where Would You Hit Overbay/Grace/Williams in theLineup?

Randy strikes me as profoundly non-clutch. He didn't learn to become clutch, he merely didn't put as much pressure on himself since Curt was carrying the load initially in the playoffs in 2001. Relaxed him. However, look at what he did again in 2002 NLDS, funked it. Curt pitched his usual great...

Where Would You Hit Overbay/Grace/Williams in theLineup?

Just because studies haven't proven clutch hitting doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I think that it's simply something that is unquantifiable. Measures such as RISP and late and close are just not definitive enough and real clutch hitting probably is few enough times as to be difficult to measure...
