You are correct ... I forgot that new nuance.

With Edge and Shipp resigned, would we take Peterson?

:) Unfotunately Davis was pretty good at doing both. Consider this from http://snap.stats.com/stats/nflinfo/playerstats.asp?id=5449&Submit=Go) :

I would suspect that there are many Cards fans who would like to see just what you suggest. For myself however I really hope we don't see Levi Brown in a Cards uni ... and I highly doubt that Kalil will make it out of the first round.

OT - Brady Quinn workout was today

I'm not saying he is a stone wall :) ... but he is not as fast, agile, or strong as the QBs that are really catching team's eyes. Like Montana or Brees when they were drafted. That also does not mean he wont have success. I am saying that it has the chance of causing Quinn to drop in the draft.

Are big name FA's worth the big money?

Yes. All signing bonus money is guaranteed. It is spread out over the length of the contract for salary cap purposes ... but the player receives all the signing bonus up front. If the team releases or trades the player before the contract is over then they must absorb a cap hit as the balance...

OT - Brady Quinn workout was today

The thing is that QBs like Quinn are just not that highly sought after on draft day. For every Joe Montana and Drew Brees there are many, many slow, smart, limited athletically QBs who never make it in the NFL. That doesn't guarantee that Quinn is a bust ... but it certainly makes teams think...

 That wouldn't suprise me at all!

Are big name FA's worth the big money?

Absolutely true. However if those players were integral contributors to their new team for those 3 years ... much of the time I would suspect they would be resigned after or before the contract expired. All the variables you and I have mentioned certainly play into the equation ... but the...

Are big name FA's worth the big money?

Statistics have shown that only 1 in 7 free agents are starting for their new team after 3 years. Of course there are many variables that play into that fraction (free agents signed as backups, retirement, injuries, etc.) but it does point out to an extent that even though there are exceptions...

    Bears | Briggs wants out?

I have heard the same. However, it generally takes about two years to truly restock the cupboard with players to suit a 3-4. By then would Porter have anything in the tank? Perhaps Clancy could insert a hybrid type D where Porter would be able to do what he does best in specific situations...

With Edge and Shipp resigned, would we take Peterson?

Trading down in that scenario would be a very wise thing to do IMO. I wouldn't want us trading down and grabbing Brown ... but trading down could be very effective for us.

New First Round Mock by darnik44

I can't imagine at this point that Detroit or any other team would actually consider paying #2 pick money to Adams when guys like Thomas, Peterson, and Johnson are on the board.

    Bears | Briggs wants out?

Exactly. 3-4 LBs notoriously have trouble attaining their same level of productivity when they switch to a 4-3 (i.e. Jonathon Vilma, etc.). Porter may work out ... he may not. We have no way to know as he has never played a down in the NFL in a system other than a 3-4. But Briggs?! Oh my...

With Edge and Shipp resigned, would we take Peterson?

If both QBs are gone #1 and #2 (highly unlikely) I can't imagine Cleveland would not take either Thomas or Peterson. But there have been reports that other teams (Atlanta and Jets) have been contacting Cleveland in hopes of moving up to #3. The odds that those teams want AP are very high.

Why didn't we make a run at kerney?

I like Kerney, but I agree with you. We have DEs on our team that are similar when not injured. IMO we need youth at that position ... not a 1-2 year bad-aid.
