If memory serves me right Shaq finished 2nd in MVP voting behind Nash that year. Shaq was definitely the best player on that team still.

Not only did Shaq not finish 2nd, he didn't finish in the top 10. Wade, on the other hand, finished 6th.

As if NBA titles are an individual achievement. Wade was never the best player on a championship team.

First it was the last elite year of Shaq and then it was Lebron. Not many NBA stars have the luxury of having such teammates.

This is beyond stupid. Wade was EASILY the best player on his championship team as Shaw had started tailing off big his second year in Miami, even losing substantial minutes in Finals games to an completely washed up Zo Mourning.

I'm not sure why intelligent posters engage him on his rants, so much nonsense and never admitting wrong

The answer to that question is, always, NO. He reads boxscores.

Yes it was the 04'-05' season when Shaq nearly won it over Nash. He was fully motivated and in-shape after the Lakers chose to go forward with Kobe. Shaq was out for blood that year but that is why Shaq isn't in the GOAT conversation. Basketball wasn't always his first priority.

uh no I was simply wrong, in my memory the Heat championship year was the first year with Shaq where he thinks he got robbed of MVP and finished 2nd to Nash.

Still my original point remains, Fultz is a better prospect, especially given age, than Wade was. Championships are a poor way of judging individual talent.

It would be easier to tell me some similarities because besides both being black point guards and both being more of the quiet type is about all they have in common.

Thanks for posting that article. It was good reading that Fultz gets teammates involved and is good at pick and rolls etc etc . I was getting worried that he might hog the ball having a scorers mentality... Booker and Chriss are going to need a lot of touches in the future. So I feel a little better... I definitely want him to be a better distributor than Bledsoe.

That's all true. But occasionally he puts up good posts that keeps the board running so I guess it's worth the trade off... I wish he had more class though.

right... so what you're saying is your entire point was wrong because you were denigrating Wade as someone who couldn't carry a team... even though he clearly did, singlehandedly beating TWO teams that were superior to his.

Still my original point remains, Fultz is a better prospect, especially given age, than Wade was.

Your original point falls apart when your original point was based on a false premise... like you made about Wade not being able to be the best player on a title winner.

Championships are a poor way of judging individual talent.

okay... so he's got 3 titles, 1 where he singlehandedly lead a TERRIBLE Miami team (by your admission) and a Finals MVP, which apparently mean very little.

How about being a 12-Time All-Star, an 8-time All-NBA Team (2 1st, 3 2nds and 3 3rds).

Can we judge him that way... and still consider Fultz a better prospect?

I'm not even arguing who the PROSPECT is. I'm comparing what fultz MAY be to what Wade WAS.

Wade was a ball dominant scorer. Very creative. And could distribute as well though certainly not a pg.

I think Fultz has the same makings as what Wade ended up being. But for some to claim that as a prospect he'll be better than Wade WAS is talking a big game imo.

If Brooklyn goes 3-1 we would tie with them. We would have to lose the next 3 games.

And BKN just lost to the Magic so Boston rejoices, again.. - seriously, how tf did that trade ever get approved. If Boston don't win the league in the next few years that will have to be considered a failure.

That being said, I have my reservations about such a small player in IT being the man, but he's not showing any signs of it holding him back so far.

Why exactly are you talking in the future?

Markelle Fultz IS a better prospect than Wade was, not WILL be. He is.

I just looked up that trade because I remember it happening but couldn't recall the details of it. Boston really only got the picks in return because the players they got were garbage that made the salaries work. They traded away Pierce, KG, Jason Terry, and DJ White for Keith Bogans, MarShon Brooks, Kris Humphries, Kris Joseph, and Gerald Wallace plus the Nets #1 in 2014, 16, and 18 with the rights for Boston to swap picks in 2017.

The Nets had just moved to Brooklyn the year before and had a good season while Boston was blowing up their team. The Celtics were supposed to push the Nets into contenders, competing with Miami out east but they lost to them in the 2nd round 4-1. They went 49-33 the year before with a core of Brook Lopez, Joe Johnson, and Deron Williams. PJ Carlesimo was their coach that year but they let him go to bring in rookie coach and freshly retired Jason Kidd to coach their new "super team". They finished worse though, going 44-38 and losing to Miami in the 2nd round after going a full 7 games against the Raptors in the first. Pierce and Terry's contracts were up and they both bailed, KG was done before he left Boston though. He started all 54 games he played during the regular season but only played 20 mpg, scoring 6 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. He started all 12 playoff games averaging the same minutes, points, and rebounds. Looking at their stats it looks like they were poorly coached based on the starting lineups they used as well as the minute distribution. They thought they were buying a title but they got hosed.

But what we're watching is the ultimate downside and it should never have come to this - no team, particularly not a 'new' franchise, should be allowed trade so much of their future away on such a long shot, cause that's exactly what it was.

You can't just stick a bunch of stars together and expect it to win, or even stay competitive.

Maybe you could justify the trade by saying the picks had to be spaced further apart but other than that, yeah it's a potential franchise killer.

Are you able to say how the '14, '16 and '18 picks became the 16', '17 and '18 picks?

Mike Schmitz from DX said the best comparison he has heard for Fultz is John Wall with a jumper. Think about that.

According to who or what?

Markelle Fultz is 18 and his numbers are easily as good or better than Wade during his sophomore year.

Wade was not capable of putting up 23+/6/6 as a barely 18 year old freshman.

Fultz is much further as a shooter than Wade was and in a different universe as a passer and playmaker. While he could do most of the other things Wade could.
But unlike Wade Fultz has great size and wingspan for his position. Wade was undersized and compensated with his wingspan.

Was a better defender but Fultz has the same tools and I am not sure how good freshman Wade actually was defensively as an individual.

The Celtics certainly have the tools to win it all and I think Danny Ainge will get it done with any luck.

I can't believe I put Magic beat Knicks instead of the Magic beat Nets in the post. Must have been tired.

Anyway they are physically close to each other. :)

Maybe it's a language thing, but you're not getting my point and I'm done arguing with you.

Are you guys saying that fultz is a going to be a better player than wade? I think that's what I'm reading from slin and cardssunsdbacks. I just want to be sure what it is you're saying.
I have no idea where you came to that conclusion. Wade was a SG and Fultz is a PG. I just don't see the comparison.
