From Grantland:

"Whisenhunt's decision is almost comically short-sighted on both ends. For one, benching Skelton after seven passes without an interception is absurd. If Whisenhunt is going to cycle through his quarterbacks on whims that quickly, he's going to end up with three quarterbacks who have absolutely no confidence, something that has happened to him and his team in virtually every season that didn't involve Kurt Warner holding the job all year. And if Skelton's leash was really only seven bad passes long, Whisenhunt should have realized that before the bye and made the move to Lindley in advance, giving the rookie a week of practice (and two weeks of mental preparation) before unleashing him into a key game on the road against a playoff team."

THAT is my biggest problem with the decision...SOOOO freaking dumb to do that. If the leash is that short, bite the effing bullet and make the change. I wondered when he said "there will be some changes" if it were Lindley...we knew Potter would start. Lindley was my thought. But Skelton started (maybe they shared reps in practice, but I heard nothing about that).

If it's that short, make the change, get Lindley all first team reps and preparation, and get some comfort throwing to Larry. It's no shock the only guy Lindley felt comfortable throwing to was Early Doucett, who he probably gets the most reps with overall.

That was a maddening decision, IMO.

Urban tweeted last week that Lindey got a lot of 1st team reps, but chalked it up as Bye week norm with only two healthy QB's.

Darren Urban‏@Cardschatter

Can't report on that part of practice RT @Church_NFL: @Cardschatter Has Ryan Lindley taken any first-team reps in practice?

From the 14th

Nothing right now. It's what the bye week is for. RT @saraaasmile @cardschatter what do you read into Lindley getting 1st team reps?

From the 9th

I keep hearing talk about getting 1st team reps and just bought it as normal thinking of college teams who have 100 players. But the Cards only have 8 offensive linemen, that's not enough for a full 2nd team and there definitely aren't enough players for a 3rd string or "scout team". So how do teams divide up practice given the roster limitations?
