Sherman is a stout fullback that does not have the strength to be a lead blocker at the next level. He is a fierce competitor that flashes a mean streak and looks to punish opponents. However, he is not explosive at the point of attack and does not generate a consistent push in the running game. He is not a natural runner that lacks the vision to find space and the speed to exploit seams. He is a capable blocker in pass protection, but not a weapon in the passing game. Sherman looks to be a rookie free agent.

Awesome. A FB that can't run block and was slated to be a rookie FA.

Gotta be for some pass protection in the pocket, our new RB Williams isn't very good at this. Timmy might really be gone considering he was our best at this. Lots of offense in this draft.

Pipsqueak. Maybe he can stand on some phone books and hit Patrick Willis.

WTF are they doing on hardy dr? Another wasted pick. Could of had this guy in 7th round not to mention we barely use a fullback. This dudes scouting says he can't catch, can't block, and has no pop in the run game. We already have that in Reagan Mauai. Ef this team!

1 = Exceptional 2 = Above average 3 = Average4 = Below average 5 = Marginal

Production 2

2007: (13/2) 2 catches, 9 yards. 2008: (13/8) 26 catches, 270 yards (10.4). 2009: (13/10) 9 catches, 71 yards (7.9). 2010: (12/8) 11 catches, 127 yards (11.5), 1 TD. Career: 14 carries, 33 yards; 63 total tackles

Height-Weight-Speed 2

Below average height. Average weight. Above-average top-end speed.

Durability 3

Dealt with a hamstring injury in 2010.

Intangibles 2

Team captain in 2009 and 2010. Practices hard. Great effort on special teams.

Fullback Specific Traits

Competitiveness/Toughs 2

Could be more aggressive at times but doesn't shy away from contact and flashes an edge. Runs hard and fights for yards after contact. Gets downfield and blocks through the whistle. Sells play action and sucks linebackers up towards the line of scrimmage.

Blocking Skills 3

Keeps head up and locates assignments at the second level. Flashes a powerful punch. Can sustain once locked on. Relatively low center of gravity and above average balance. Attacks inside shoulder when kicking out and inside shoulder when sealing inside. However, not explosive enough to jar linebackers at the point of attack. Lower body strength appears just adequate and doesn't generate enough push once locked on. Can duck head and whiff as a cut blocker. As a pass blocker, steps up and keeps head on a swivel.

Inside Run Skills 4

Runs with good forward lean but doesn't appear to have the lower body strength to push the pile in short-yardage situations. Sub-par vision. Doesn't read or makes cuts off of blocks very well. Doesn't anticipate seams opening and can be too quick to cut back.

Receiving Skills 3

Inconsistent in this area but can catch ball with hands away from frame. Can open up and adjust to passes thrown behind him. Turns upfield and gets what he can after the catch.

If he develops into a good fullback, maybe we're shifting how we run the offense this year. Drafting a fast straight-ahead halfback in the 2nd and his lead blocker in the 5th, this may mean we're going to actually focus on running the ball and playing good defense instead of running 4 wide with a terrible passer like we did last year.

Gil Brandt says

03/28/2011 - UConn Pro day: Anthony Sherman, FB, (5-10 3/4, 241) is an intriguing player, the rare fullback who also possesses very good hands. Though players at his position don't tend to go high on draft days, Sherman's unique skills should lead to him coming off the board in the fourth or fifth round. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

He also had 53.5 tackles on special teams, and started 51 0f 52 games

Would've rather had Herzlich. Hopefully we make up for it next round by someone we could've had this one.

I wanted Marcus Cannon :(

Here are the snippets:

...does not have the strength to be a lead blocker at the next level.

... does not generate a consistent push in the running game.

... He is a capable blocker in pass protection, but not a weapon in the passing game.

... Sherman looks to be a rookie free agent.
I liked this guy better when his name was Mackovicka.

I haven't read those ratings yet, I just don't know anything about the guy so I thought I would throw up the scouting report.
