Griffith or Francisco?

Griffith has been playing good football in the last 6 games but Francisco is a young FS who plays his ass off. Who do you want starting next season?

I am convinced that Griff will retire.

I love Francisco, but dont think he is our starter at FS next year.

I think our new coach will put Rolle at FS. He's just not a good cover corner. I heart Francisco though, the kid brings it every play.

If our new coach put Rolle in at FS I think everyone would like that except maybe Antrel. Remember Corey Chavous?
I'm starting to come around to that line of thinking. But, we'd need at least one new starter at CB, and probably at least one more nickle/backup.

Like it or not, Rolle is arguably our best CB right now.

I really dont like the idea of either Francisco or Griffith being our FS next year. We really need a ball hawk that can cover. Wilson is the run stopping S. I really like Reggie Nelson out of Florida.

hes still good enough to have made the pro bowl right? and hes good at FS. Hes definatley not bad.

At this point in time I would have to say that is debatable that he is a good FS right now. He has to tools to get better but right now he isnt. We lead the laegue in over 20 yard pass plays and Fransisco has been apart of that as he has gotten a lot of playing time as a nickel DB. Including getting torched on some plays that the camera would point out. Maybe he gets better with more experiance and better coaching but right now I wont just rest on that fact and will want to upgrade the position ASAP.

I do keep Fransisco though for depth and special teams without question. I would also like to re-sign Griffith to be a backup and role player Behind Wilson at SS. Griffith still has some pop in him and he seen as a good leader. He should also be cheap and we currently dont have anyone behind Wilson as well. So if we keep Fransisco, Grifith, and add a viable starting FS to the mix I will be very happy.

Griffith came here because of Green, so I don't see him resigning if Green is gone. Griffith could start for half the teams in the league, and would be valuable no matter where he goes, so if I was him I'd sign on cheap with a Superbowl contender to finish out my career there, like Indy.

Is Griffith's contract up after this season?

Yes, he signed a two year deal.
Rolle should be better next year. He was playing pretty good in his rookie year until he had the knee injury. The reason for his poor play this year may be lingering effects of the knee injury and the lack of conditioning in the off season. Both him and Green will improve with a new DB coach.

Rolle is not suited for off-coverage, period. Hopefully the next DC will allow him to use his physical tools more effectivley.

Ha! This was written 04/10/05;

Miami (Fla.)'s Antrel Rolle, who brings a physical, in-your-face style, is regarded as the No. 1 cornerback on many teams' draft boards. But there's debate when considering his lack of blazing speed (4.49 to 4.52 seconds for 40 yards). "A lot has been written about Rolle's speed," Houston Texans GM Charley Casserly says. "Some people have projected him to safety. You think about guys like Ty Law, (Patrick) Surtain and (Sam) Madison. None of them were big speed guys. They all ran 4.5s. They've all gone on to numerous Pro Bowls. Rolle, I think, will be that style of corner." ...

Those guys can't be any good, they're not fast. That's the sole barometer to being a good CB to many people.

though being blazing fast would be my preference, i define a good cb to be a guy who can shut down the field in pass defense and come up with game-changing takeaways. rolle is slow and does not take away half the field or come up with many game-changing takeaways. i'll be patient with him as it was his first full season at cb, but i'm skeptical. he's certainly not the typical mercurial U product.

Speed is nice but it is more about talent. If he had the talent to be a gifted CB then it would show atleast in some spots. He looks like an average CB that gets burned alot & makes way too much contact down field...

There is no doubt the guy is physically gifted and has skills, but I dont think he can ever be more than a average #2 CB in the NFL. But I do think he has a shot at being a freak at either S position where he can do more roaming and not just chasing a WR all play long.
