Collmenter was tough! Though, I'll never understand how he allowed Halladay to get 2 hits off of him. Doc was batting .075 coming into tonight!

J-Up and Miggy had big hits, and of all people, Overbay comes thru in the clutch!
JJ comes in and slams the door!
What a GREAT game made even better with a SF loss! 3 1/2 game lead now!!
WOW!!!

I agree, Josh really impressed me tonight. Even after giving up the homer he got it back together and finished strong.

One of my favorite things about this was Upton's hit to lead off the 9th.

Halladay had absolutely owned Justin all day, I mean he was making him look stupid. Justin didn't get all pissed off and rattled, he hung in there and led off the 9th with a huge hit, got the offense going and eventually scored.

I also loved how fired up he was after Cowgill got in safe at home to take the lead.

Upton has done some major maturing already over the course of this season. :D

Dude.. really? He looked so wrong while attempting to bunt - when it actually counted!! That was horrible!!! Thank God Overbay, of all people, bailed his ass out!!! ;)

Without his first run, it would have gone to extra innings...

And bunting is a major weakness for most Dbacks

Can't..... break.... down.... Young sucks. Period. Even his stolen base was pathetic... He practically slid on the damn base. Can't believe he didn't break an ankle. If I didn't know any better, his .240 average, inability to bunt and no knowledge of how to slide - I'd swear he's never played this game before... ;)

How DOES a guy with his ability to run never learn how to bunt? That's a trip. I know guys who never played more than 3 years of minor league baseball, and they can all bunt brilliantly.

Ya I have very little patience for that. EVERY baseball player (especially in the majors) should be able to bunt when called upon to do so. To not be able to bunt when your team needs it is pretty inexcusable IMO.

Fundamentals people! ;)

Were they bunting against Roy Halladay?

The attempt was pretty sloppy, but it couldn't have been easy trying to bunt that curve ball. The BT guys made mention of Gibby's even keel through that debacle, which I thought was a great point.

And it wasn't just one bunt attempt. He tried on all three strikes.

Most pitchers could do better than that.

Every batter should be taught how to bunt when necessary. Just as every batter should be taught how to hit a routine fly ball to the outfield when a sacrifice fly would help the team.

Same as in basketball. Is a Guard going against a Guard for a rebound any different than a Center going against a Center?

Yup, fundamentals. Hopefully, things like bunting and sliding will be stressed next Spring Training.

Its always hard. It's hard to bunt 90mph fastballs too, the thing is that as much as CY is struggling at the plate he needs to be able to contribute any way he can.

You're right though, it was one attempt against a very tough pitcher with lots of movement. Still gotta come through!

That being said, I haven't given up on CY yet.

CY is not asked to bunt that many times and bunting against Halladay and his curveball is not an easy thing to do. As it turned out, CY not bunting successfully led to Lyle hitting instead of being intentionally walked and it turned out the Diamondbacks won because of that. A win is a win!

Just watching his at bats you can tell he is coming close to breaking out. He is starting to hit the ball hard. Unfortunately most of those are right at defenders, but that is a huge step in the right direction.

CY got the first hit of the game, then had a big stolen base and then came in and scored the first run of the game. Seems no one brings up the little things, like how he plays solid defense.

Because we're all actively rooting against him. Obviously.

No doubt. He is a hugely important piece of this team this year. Obviously I would love to see him hit better but I would happily take his .240 average with his defense every day of the week. When he gets on base he is so disruptive and even with his lower average he is still way up there in extra base hits. When he hits them he finds the gaps. He will never be a guy to hit .280 but who cares? There are very few centerfielders who can and even fewer who are as good at covering ground as him.

It sure seems like some are. Nick picking on how bad a slide he had on his successful stolen base that led to the first run was a clue. :bang:

Dude, it would help the cause if you would get on board and flow with the reverse mojo action, k? ;)

And, oh yea - CY and his .239 average SUCKS!

I agree I think he is right there to getting his bat really hot.

CY is a better hitter than he's shown lately and you're right some of those line drives, straight to outfielders, are gonna start dropping for hits.

Go Dbacks!

Seriously, when was the last time CY had a hit to the right side of 2nd base?? Dude is a one side of the field player. That places a ceiling on his potential as a hitter. It's amazing he even hits .240!

I'm thinking.... It was March 3rd 2008, it was a cool summer day.

lol jk, I dont know now that I think about it I dont remember him going opposite field.

But it would still be ok for him to be a one trick pony who only pulls the ball as long as he's doing a bunch of other good things for the team, which I think CY can do.

He's a great fielder and he's a great baserunner. Chris needs to focus on getting on base more (walks) and fundamentals like bunting and (like you said) going opposite park...

I think this is what fuels my frustrations with CY. He gives off the appearance of someone who can be one of the better players in the league... certainly a guy who should be in the top 3rd at his position. Yet, he consistently under-delivers. He'll play just enough defense (though he has no arm to speak of), he'll flash his speed just often enough, and hit just enough HR's to always keep you thinking that maybe, just maybe he is about to bust out. That he FINALLY has it all figured out.
Meanwhile, the guy still looks like a t-baller most of the time at the plate. He still leads the league in weak pop-ups and is still at the top of the league in K's year after year...

I just can't stop thinking about what could be if we had a CF who can produce even minimally decent offensive #'s like a .275 batting average, a .340 OBP and a .780 OPS...

Oh yea - CY SUCKS!! ;)
