Why don't we try to get Chase Headley? He is expendable since the Padres have James Darnell and Jedd Gyorko in the system. He could be a legitimate threat away from Petco Park. Bell is not cutting it and if we aren't going to bring up Davidson or Wheeler, let's see what we can do?

Greg Schulte mentioned again today that Drew may see some time at 3B. With either Drew or Bloomquist seeing time there (I prefer Drew), I don't see the D'backs adding anyone else to the mix at 3B during the season unless Drew proves to be far less than 90% in the field. He already seemed tentative on a botched catch at 2B with a runner coming at him today, even though the error was given to the pitcher. We'll have to see if that continues.

I heard today that the D-Backs are slow to make a trade for a 3B because they think Matt Davidson will be there next year -- or want to leave that open to give him a legitimate shot. If they trade for a 3B, it would have to be someone with some bark left on the tree and not just a fix for a year or two. But when I asked about Chase Headley I got silence, so he could be the one guy they like. I think he's still only 28. The challenge is convincing the Padres it's a good idea to trade him within the division. He's not expensive (about $3.5 mil a year) so the Pads don't HAVE to move him.

If Bauer can get a win today it would really give the team a lift. The starting rotation has been horrible lately. This was the one area that most people thought the Dbacks were pretty strong going into the season but now it may be our biggest concern. Kennedy sucks, Hudson is messed up, Saunders meh, Cahill has slipped his last few starts and WADE MILEY is the team MVP.

I was hoping the MLB channel would pick this one up. If anyone comes across a link to watch hollar at me.

I think Drew is going to hurt more than he is going to help. You can clearly see he was trying to avoid the shot to the ankle on his error, which ended up hurting the Dbacks.

I think Bloomquist is severely underrated. He's not a star by any means, but he is consistent all-around.

Hmm, not impressive thus far. 6 free passes in 2 2/3 innings? Not ready.

You'd think that, but this is what Bauer does. He thinks this is 'game management.' Not going to change anytime soon. He probably needs to get rocked a few times for an attitude adjustment.

Bauer has an indifferent look to him, I can't explain it.

They are only going to throw him four innings?

The pitch count is high but not so high that he can't go at least one more.

Why even bring him up?

Dude - he's got 3 walks in 3 innings... along with 3 K's.

And yes, the umps is squeezing him bigtime.
He hit Uggla on a 3-ball count - that is just the same as a walk. I did say free passes. I could have sworn they said he had two walks in the second when he got out of the jam - my fault for not checking.

Agreed.

Another lazy Upton play in the outfield today, ugh.
Which play are you calling lazy? The one that no other right fielder gets to (playing where he was) and went off his glove? Or the one in the 3rd inning. I thought he could have made a more intelligent effort on that one in the 3rd that he gave up on, but it wasn't the best angle to get a good look at on the tube.

The one in the 3rd is what I meant. I think he could have gotten that, even though it was hit hard. Lazy might have been a bit much. I'll only use lazy for any dropped fly balls from now on :)

No, I agree with you on that one - I think he could of gotten it but gave up on it when it starting knuckling back over his head. He should have been taught by now that a left handed hitter is going to bring that ball from the line towards center on a hard hit ball. He took a poor line and couldn't recover.

Intellectual superiority? Cockiness? Acting as though he is above paying his dues as a Major League rookie?

I wonder how his relationship with Montero will develop? Will he listen and learn or be in his own world? Bauer getting off to a disappointing start is probably the best thing that could have happened to him.

At least it is a brand new ballgame at 2-2. Most of our other starting pitchers put us in the hole by four runs.
