Wanted to post about tonight's game and did not see a May thread, so I started one. Hope that is OK. We scored in the top of the 9th again which kept Putz from a save opportunity. Even though he is my closer in fantasy baseball, I will take those large leagues heading into the bottom of the 9th all year long.

After tonight's game we are 2 games over 500 and 4 behind the Doyers. It is a very long season and it should be exciting especially between us, the Giants and the Doyers. And you never know who will sneak up on you.

Corbin looked OK his first start, not bad, not great. It will be interesting to see how he does this month. Bauer and Skaggs are chomping at the bit to get up here but the way our pitching staff is going, well, it is a good problem.

CY had an amazing start but it looks more and more like he will be out more than 3-4 weeks. Kubel has played very well, Parra is coming around and looking more like the Parra we love and Upton struggled with the bat last month, but I believe he will come around. I know he is a great talent, but tonight he made another boneheaded play when he admired his shot off the wall in right center and then got thrown out at 2nd. He would have been there easily if he took off running and forgot about admiring his handy work. That crap just drives me crazy. I am glad we have Gibson because I think he will be able to get through to Justin and get the most out of him.

We have a lot going on in the infield but I expect Davidson to be called up sooner than I originally thought.

All in all, I really like what I see in the ball club both with the players and the coaches. Here's to a great May! GO :dbacks::dbacksnake::dbacks:

Putz is not a closer! His stuff is middle reliever stuff.

To be fair, JJ had 45 saves last year. He has not pitched in 8 days and warmed up in 4 of those (I believe) without coming in to pitch.

I fail to see how he could not be considered a closer.

He doesn't have an out pitch. DH was more dominant last year when Putz was out for an extended period.

Again, he had 45 saves last year. Without an "out pitch"?, What are you watching? Give the man credit for what he did and stop all the hate.

Putz is on the backside of his career. I'm almost ready to get on board the Hernandez bandwagon, with his .81 whip and his career 2-to-1 SO/BB ratio. Putz has 2 blown saves in 7 opps so far this year. Last year he had 4 in 49.

Hernandez hasn't looked right all year. If the D-Backs were to make a move, and they won't unless Putz completely implodes, then the best choice would be Shaw. That said there won't be a change for a while, if at all.

Resident Sabretician (sp?) here in the newsroom informed me I'm an idiot for caring about a set-up man's WHIP, especially when he's only logged 12.1 innings so far.

OK, he's right.

However, he has only given up 2BBs to 19Ks, and has an ERA under 3. Barely, but it's under. Perhaps you toss him out there for SvOpps when it's a 2- or 3-run lead, and save Putz for the 1-run games.

10 one run losses now. It is time to reverse that trend like we did last year.

We just don't hit consistently enough... it's tough to win consistently, let alone 1 run games, when guys like Upton and Goldy are sucking so badly... And we get zero production from 3B (though TatMan did hit a dinger today...). Combined with CY out, Drew still not playing, Hudson, Collmenter sent to the pen and a AA call-up (Corbin) in the rotation, it's quite a feat to simply be where we are...

Doesn't Candiotti usually help during BP when the D Backs are facing a knuckle ball pitcher? If he does, it didn't work today. Dickey 8 IP 4 hits

0-6 RISP :bang:

Um...it's May 6th.

You're obviously correct that it is early but I think the front office was counting on a quick start to boost attendance. I remember reading about how they need to sell a lot of tickets to pay for all the off season money the spent and fair or not fans aren't gonna pay to see a mediocre team.

The D-Backs are currently 17th in attendace with ~26K. That's up from the past two years and close to what it was in 2009. With Cards, G-men, Doghairs and HGH Brewers coming to town this month, that could spike up.

Ouch... not a good start. 3 spot dropped on Saunders in the 1st inning. Hopefully our bats can get going...

Back to back homers given up by Saunders in the 3rd. Both on change-ups.

Yuck...

Hope Joe strapped on a Depends before that outing cus he just doubled his ERA.

This team has lost its mojo. They're making stupid errors, bad at bats.....

They need a rain out.
