I don't understand the talk about a backup center. No one who's any good is available. So the Suns can either sign someone who won't play, or not sign someone who won't play. Either way, they'll just go small with Frye or Scola at C rather than try to incorporate a stiff with no future into the second unit.

From what I understand, they HAVE to sign another player (whether its for roster limits or salary requirements), and a 3rd center is the most logical position of need at this point.

Hmm, did I lose count?

Gortat
Scola
Beasley
Dudley
Dragic
Frye
Morris
Johnson
Brown
Marshall
Telfair
Tucker

I feel like I'm missing someone, but you're right, that is only 12.

And Frye is out for the first month, so I doubt Scola will hold down starting PF and backup C. That's a tall order.

I'd think Beasley will play a lot of PF while Frye is out.

After watching Ike Diogu with Nigeria yesterday, he should be the guy. He's available and he's got ASU ties. Get 'er done.

The Suns can also look at Eric Boateng. :D

He's an undersized center, not an undersized PF.

6'9", 250 lbs, 7' 4" wingspan.

Not according to NBA.com:

Diogu stands at 6 foot 9 inches (2.06 m) tall which is considered slightly undersized for an NBA power forward, but he makes up for his lack of height with his muscle, girth and 7'4" wingspan.

Besides, with his performance for Nigeria, there are bound to be a lot more people like you who want him on their team. And most likely a lot of teams will have playing time to throw at him. We don't.

I just hope he makes it back into the league. If somebody else can give him more playing time, more power to him.

I don't really care what NBA.com says- 6'9 and anything over 235lb is not undersized for a power forward, even without 7'4 wingspan.

I agree. Unless he is a soft 6'11"-245 who plays 23 feet from the basket. Y'know, the one who said the "e" was left off his personalized Fry's shopping card. :D

Diogu can't stay healthy. That's why he hasn't found a home in the NBA.

I keep thinking the Suns must have their eye on someone.
I don't know. We have not heard anything in the media about the Suns pursuing or looking at anyone else. It's gone very quiet since Tucker. I would think that if the Suns already had someone specific in mind, they would have signed him by now.

Maybe the Suns don't have someone in mind as you suggest but they do have one roster position still available which will likely be filled by a center.

It could be the Suns are going to wait for someone to fall through the cracks in free agency, use the waiver wire, a summer league player or do a smaller trade using Miller, Dyson and Telfair with say the Laker second round pick for a center. Who, I don't have a clue.

Maybe the Suns even have their eye on a foreign player playing in the Olympics.

I just don't think the Suns are waiting for the sake of waiting unless they believe someone will become available sooner or later. Maybe the later might be the trading deadline.

I sure hope they aren't biding their time until Channing Frye heals to return him to the backup Center position. If so, Gortat will have gray hair and aching bones from the minutes he will have to play each game.

I think Scola will slide over to play center at times, maybe even Frye, but the Suns should be looking at a true backup center for the future. I hope the Suns plan to go with a traditional center in this position. The Suns may plug someone into this position for now, but the actual change may not occur until the trading deadline nears or even next season.

I could see the Suns bringing back Blank's guy at center (who's name escapes me; big wide body; lumbered up and down the floor) who was around for a couple years but never sniffed the floor.

My main man Gerret Siler! Love watching Big G play.
