It doesn't look like Lopez is getting much interest from anyone. He could very well just pick up the Suns qualifying offer ($4M) for next season and become an unrestricted FA next summer.

Thats because the QO is above his value. I am sure he would be getting offers below the $4 million, but he has not interest in taking those since he already has the QO.

Watch. He'll pick up the 1 year QO offer and have a breakout year, and then walk because he is getting offers that are too rich.

Dumb luck of the Suns.

I'm wondering if the Suns still have the option of pulling the qualifying offer like some other teams have with their players. I'm not sure the Suns want to go this direction.

Also will the Suns have Bird rights for Lopez if they keep him for the qualifying offer. This might be something if he has a good season.

I believe they can pull the QO at any time and he's been with the club more than 3 years, so they would still have his Bird rights if he played this season for the 1 year QO.

I'm thinking the Suns plan to let him play out his contract and look at the situation next season unless they find a sign and trade that is acceptable. It would seem the Suns could offer him more as a FA with Bird rights but this seems to be a more portable thing now. I can't really say I understand it anymore.

It seems sign and trade is the wave of the future for many FAs.

I am noticing that average players like Pietris/Lopez who think they are worth more are not even getting offers. Looks like teams will still overpay for talent, but only for main pieces on their team. Then look to vet min and rookies to complete the min roster. I can see a team like the Suns who are building to be 8-9 deep again might make the playoffs, just on have enough ok players.

Smart teams realize deep teams filled with average/good players are the NBA equivalent of limbo, and not to overpay on non superstars.

The Wolves officially sign Andrei Kirilenko. It gives me a pleasant feeling inside helping them get AK and the Suns getting a first round draft pick out of the deal. For a few days it was like a bonding experience between the Suns, Hornets and Wolves.

However, I'm sure that feeling will change quick enough. :)

i chuckle at the fact that people were saying the Suns were going to hold a grudge against the Hornets for the whole thing with Gordon. Apparently the grudge didn't hold too long.

don't know. I'm high enough on this trade to think it could be considered exacting some revenge on the Hornets.

I hope Coach Gentry is wise enough to rest Gortat and go small with Scola, Morris, Beasley at PF and Dudley or Johnson at 3, maybe move Dragic to shooting guard and play Telfair as point guard, when Gortat needs rest.

For instance start with Gortat, Scola, Beasley, Johnson, Dragic.

Rotate C: Scola/Morris, PF: Morris/Beasley, SF: Dudley, SG: Brown/Dragic, PG: Telfair.

All in all I don't think we've been on the obvious short end of a deal this summer. That is refreshing!

There must be an undrafted or D-league player we can sign for training camp.

That would work against other teams that play small ball, but against the rest of the league, I am afraid that a steady routine like that to start the second and fourth quarters would lose us many games where we were holding our own.

Games can be lost in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter. Of course, the tank brigade of ASFN is hoping for that.

Barbosa's only talent as a tweener is instant offense, but not part of the rotation. If he is part of the rotation, as we used him here, his negatives outweigh his positives.

I would rather see Dragic get some time at the "2" than Barbosa. And certainly not see Barbosa at the Point.

The point I'm trying to make, I like Barbosa as a person. Of course I like Nash as well. I don't need two players on the Lakers that I like. :bang:

'Got it! They are both good people.

'Interesting that the Lakers could be, in part, Suns West. The Valley has always gotten everything from L.A. Rainstorms. Restaurants. This would be a turnaround. :)

I don't know if I should be happy or sad but Zabian Dowdell had a good summer league for the Timberwolves and will be playing in Russia. I really thought his NBA career was going to take off in Phoenix before he suffered what I believe was a knee injury prior to his second season in Phoenix. IMO, he should still be playing in the NBA.

At least Zabian's still playing basketball for a living. The knee injury could have been worse.

If Barbosa signs with the Lakers it's going to be weird watching them, but hopefully a nice experience for Nash and Barbosa :)

Greg Stiemsma signs with T'Wolves for 2-years and $2.5M/year. The Suns are in need of a backup center with Lopez gone and I think Stiemsma would have been a good young project at a fairly reasonable price. There just isn't anyone else available that is interesting.

I agree about Stiemsma.

I think the Suns have their eyes set on a particular center via FA or trade. They quickly reshaped their roster with fresh talent so I cannot see them ignoring the center position. Adding Scola to their roster has enabled them to be more patient.

This is the bottom line

It will bring out a lot of mixed feelings for Suns fans.
