Safe Thread I suppose.

6:30PM PST ESPN All-American HS Game

Too bad they have the one and done rule there would be 6-7 high school kids in the lottery this year. (Wiggins, Parker, Vonleh, Randle, Harrison, Young at least)

Practice Recap

Dunk Contest

Andrew Wiggins is said to be the best prospect since Lebron James and he is being compared to players like Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady.

Parker is being compared to Carmelo Anthony.
Randle to Chris Webber.

People said that the same thing about Andrew Wiggins that people said about Shabazz last year.

It's all talk at this point.

Wiggins is on a whole other level from Bazz, better athlete and a more humble kid.

I'm mixed on this class, Randle to me is one of those 4's who wants to be a 3, I think if he figures that out he can be really good. I think the Harrison twins are overrated, big guards who overpower HS kids and will be very good at UK, but not sure what they are in the NBA. I don't think either can actually play PG in the NBA. I actually won't be surprised if Rysheed Jordan from Philly winds up a better player than either one of them, and he probably isn't picking UCLA.

Gordon is really good but he wants to be a 3 and probably doesn't have an NBA 3 game.

Very talented group much more talent than the 12 class had, but there's still not that many kids I'm confident are can't miss beyond Wiggins.

suns need to trade gortat and oneal in the offseason for future picks, hope for a key, non-career-threatening, injury to dragic and one other starter, and need a mid-2014-season trade of scola. because i think wiggins is the real deal. he's the type of player i tank, tank, tank, tank, ta-WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-nk for.

My dream scenario is similar to yours: The Lakers miss the playoffs giving us two lottery picks that end up being the 1st pick and the 4th pick. We trade the 1st pick for unprotected picks in 2015, 2017 and a mid first rounder this year. We trade the 4th pick for a low first rounder this year and 2 more unprotected picks. We draft high ceiling projects that are a couple of years away. We then trade Gortat, Oneal and Dudley for future picks and current scrubs. We draft Wiggins with our own pick next year and then put talent around him over the next few drafts.

Sounds like a Ponzi scheme.

I might as well call my picks now. Granted I barely watch any college basketball, but based on the few games I did watch:

1. Ben McLemore: Little lateral movement on D when I watched him. He seems to be all vertical. Still, he has great potential and should be fun to watch.

2. Oladipo: He can dribble, pass, defend, and shoot. For Suns fans, I expect he'd turn out somewhere between Raja Bell and James Harden. He's a Junior but about the same age as the freshmen prospects. He should be enjoyable to watch.

3a. Otto Porter: He couldn't hit a shot when I watched him, but he has great rebounding fundamentals and really seems to know how to play the game, even without the ball. Maybe he'll be a little more of what we hoped for from the young Earl Clark. Take him and free Dudley to a good team.

3b. Shabazz Muhammad: Doesn't seem likeable but he still has good potential and he should probably still be able to get to the line at the next level.

4. Nerlens Noel: He'll be an Okafor, but that's not all that bad. I'd probably take him #2-3 were it not for the knee.

...Here's where I'm no longer excited...

Marcus Smart: Didn't watch him, but the scouting videos don't even impress me.

Anthony Bennet: No. He has no post game or quickness.

...Here's where I lose all interest, but hope they take one of the decent looking centers or a Zeller type, who might take Markieff Morris off my TV.

EDIT: Oops, wrong thread. If a mod would be kind enough to move to the 2012-2013 draft thread.

My 2 cents.

1. Ben McLemore: Little lateral movement on D when I watched him. He seems to be all vertical. Still, he has great potential and should be fun to watch..

Agree. He has a beautiful shot though, with huge range. That is the most impressive part of his game. He is a starter at the 2 immediately. I am afraid he will be mentally weak though
2. Oladipo: He can dribble, pass, defend, and shoot. For Suns fans, I expect he'd turn out somewhere between Raja Bell and James Harden. He's a Junior but about the same age as the freshmen prospects. He should be enjoyable to watch.

Jared Dudley's work ethic and skills, with incredible athleticism for a 2. He is the most guaranteed of the picks. He will be a productive NBA player for years to come. McLemore might have more upside, but is also more bust material
3a. Otto Porter: He couldn't hit a shot when I watched him, but he has great rebounding fundamentals and really seems to know how to play the game, even without the ball. Maybe he'll be a little more of what we hoped for from the young Earl Clark. Take him and free Dudley to a good team.
I look at his stats and think "yuck." Player that is good at a lot of things and master of none. The last time we drafted a player like that his name was Markieff Morris. Before that it was Earl Clark. I guess we are going to draft him. Our FO is addicted to guys like this.
3b. Shabazz Muhammad: Doesn't seem likeable but he still has good potential and he should probably still be able to get to the line at the next level.
Kobe Bryants attitude without Kobe's skills
4. Nerlens Noel: He'll be an Okafor, but that's not all that bad. I'd probably take him #2-3 were it not for the knee.
I compare him to Marcus Camby, but he is more athletic. He has long arms and is really quick off the floor. More of a 6-11 Shawn Marion without a jump shot.
...Here's where I'm no longer excited...

Marcus Smart: Didn't watch him, but the scouting videos don't even impress me.
Agree
Anthony Bennet: No. He has no post game or quickness.
Seemed like he had a lot of quickness and strength to me.
...Here's where I lose all interest, but hope they take one of the decent looking centers or a Zeller type, who might take Markieff Morris off my TV.

He's plenty quick. He's been compared to Amare...a lot of pundits are saying that he will be a 6'7 Amare in his prime.

Yeah, he's plenty quick but the previously mentioned knock about his low post game is dead on. Still, he's my top pick. Huge bust potential which will just leave us in line for Wiggins next year but if he does reach his immense potential it will still be a few years before he has much of an impact on the win column and we might still be in line for Wiggins.

I believe someone in here said (in effect) he resembles Amare when it comes to defense... so I want no part of him.

Bennett doesn't play much defense and he has no low post game and he avoids contact on both ends of the court. But I'd still take him. That's mostly due to a lack of quality options. There are safer picks but I don't see any with the ceiling he has and I don't think we need decent players, we need a star. I'd rather strike out swinging for the fences.

Quick question: Do you think Amare had a legit back to the basket post game?

Not really but he didn't shy away from contact like Bennett does which is my biggest concern about him.

With that philosophy I'd think Noel would make the most sense. He is going to miss half of next season anyway leaving the Suns inline for another high pick. IMO with Noel at worst you're getting Serge Ibaka... well, check that, at worst you're getting a guy with serious knee problems who never amounts to anything but a tragic tale of woe... but in terms of talent I think thats his floor. The ceiling is harder to project but at 19 I'd rather have a raw superbly athletic big with some good defensive instincts already in place than one with the opposite skill set.

He is not even remotely close to being as athletic as Amare was, couple that with him being 6'7 and i want no part of that in the top 7.

I don't think Oladipo handles the ball well at all and his passing is not much either.
I also think he is at best 6'4.

Think best case he is a small Shawn Marion. Worst case Dahntay Jones.

I've used the same reasoning to justify Noel before but with his injury, I think Bennett makes a little more sense. Putting the injury aside, I think Noel has a higher floor than Anthony but I believe Bennett has at least as high of a ceiling. Factor in the injury history and my guess is Bennett has a better chance of approaching his ceiling. Both of them keep us solidly in the mix for Wiggins so I'd be fine either way though.

If he fails, it won't be from a lack of athleticism or a lack of height. He's plenty athletic and his wingspan more than makes up for his height, IMO.

Yeah, I don't think he's all that great with the ball either.
