I don't think Oladipo handles the ball well at all and his passing is not much either.
I also think he is at best 6'4.

Think best case he is a small Shawn Marion. Worst case Dahntay Jones.

His slightly under 1:1 A:TO ratio indicates that you are probably correct. However, in my few games watching him, he was driving around people and making good passes to set up teammates for easy buckets. Perhaps I'm just amazed to see average passing after watching so much Beasley and Shannon :(

Phoenix Selects Center With Its #1 Draft Pick

I know, I know, it's the Phoenix Mercury. But it sounds so good to hear!

Last season, the Suns sister team was decimated by injuries to Diana Taurasi, Penny Taylor and Candice Dupree and have selected 6'8" Center Brittney Griner with their #1 pick.

If they can have a healthy year, the Mercury are the odds-on favorite for their third WNBA championship.

How can an owner who hires good people on the ladies' team and reaps the rewards be so incompetent with the men's team? Perhaps the answer is Ann Meyers-Drysdale. She is more than just a part-time color commentator on Suns TV.

The Mercury have always been fun to watch, going back to the days of Grandmama leading the dancing and celebrating on-court after victories back in the day.

But now they are more than just fun. They are 2-time champions going on 3. Perhaps Annie (VP of the Suns and Mercury) should become GM of the Suns.

I watched part of the WNBA Draft and the selection of Griner by the Mercury on ESPN. She was almost speechless after she was selected. I would have thought she would have more to say, especially as she was the consensus #1 pick. I understand she is outgoing otherwise. The WNBA needs to make their draft in prime time more exciting like having a live audience open to the public. The environment was just too controlled.

So that the room can be half empty and they can be embarrassed? That could really blow up in their face.

This is the 1st year anyone has been even mildly interested in the WNBA draft and thats because of Griner and 2 other star female players coming out. Most years they don't have much interest in the draft at all.

Dante Exum '50-50' On Declaring For Draft Or Playing College Basketball

Aug 10, 2013 9:27 PM EDT
Dante Exum is strongly considering declaring his entry in the 2014 NBA draft.

"I used to be like 90 percent to 10 that I was going to college, but recently they are saying that my stock has risen even more, that I could possibly go top five," said Exum, a native of Australia. “Now it's more of a 50-50 decision."

Exum, a 6-foot-6 point guard who’s being recruited by Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and North Carolina, among others, admits to being lured by the financial security of the NBA.

"If I'm ready, I'm ready - and the money also appeals,” said Exum. “I always dreamt about being rich as a kid. But my family will always help me make the right decisions throughout the whole process.”
Lets hope he doesn't make a Marcus Smart type decision.

I'll throw out Embiid again I think that kid has a chance to be really good. There's video of him from Adidas nations just looking quite good against the Wear twins and Tarczewski.

When all is said and done I think UCLA is going to rue the day they let a lame duck Howland decide to NOT recruit Embiid when Mbah A Moute offered Ben first crack at the kid.

Kansas may have the first 2 picks in the draft.

I think he's going to be a star too but I'm not sure he'll come out after his freshman season. He's just so new to the game and has so much ground to make up. Also, you can bet Self is going to tie his butt to the low post and I'm just not sure he'll be quite ready to shine there. He needs to improve his man defense and he really needs to improve his help D. At his size he should have been blocking a lot more shots than he did. I know he's not a very quick leaper but just from agility and length he should have been more dominant. Love his hands, his size, his agility and his attitude but I think he needs two years to fill out and continue learning the game.

Yep he's raw but scary talented. he runs the court like a gazelle and as you said appears to have excellent hands. African kids tend to be behind develomentally and he's no different but man is he talented.

KU has been pretty good at keeping kids a year longer than you expect they will and they've been really good at coaching bigs, even after Manning left. So you have to assume Embiid will continue to improve.

From all accounts he has a good attitude and a strong work ethic and he's already improved considerably in just the short time he's been playing so I'm equally sure he will continue to improve. I'm just not sure he'll be ready after one season. I wouldn't be shocked to see him be the first player drafted in the 2015 class.

Certainly possible. He'd be in the same class then as guys like Zimmerman and Rabb. Zimmerman is really good but needs to get stronger. I'm a huge Rabb fan terrific defender and rebounder and his offense is really coming on, and he's the rare 4 these days that wants to play inside not drift outside(Zimmerman for example).

But I could certainly see an NBA team looking at those 3(with others possibly) and deciding Embiid is the right choice.

Dante Exum is by far my #2 after Wiggings. I could only see Randle changing that ...

Not feeling the hype for Parker at all and Gordon is too small to be a 4 in the NBA.

I like Selden and Young best among the other freshman.

Selden will be a very good college player but I'm not sure he has a pro position unless his shot improves. He's a very physically strong kid but I'm not sure he's capable of playing SG in the NBA and might be undersized at the 3.

If you mean Young at UK, I haven't seen that much of him but there's rumors going around he might not be eligible. He just last week got admitted to UK but that doesn't mean he's NCAA eligible, UK will admit kids that don't have all their core classes and apparently that's the holdup some of his are in dispute.

Actually right now 3 of the heralded kids in that class are still not cleared, neither Harrison twin is either. In their case it's supposed to be amateurism as the NCAA looks at their fathers relationship with Under Armour. I'm sure in the end all 3 will play.

I'll also throw Jabari Bird in there I think he might actually be the best freshman in the Pac 12 over Gordon in terms of NBA prospect because he has a clearly defined position, SG. I'm hearing they're absolutely raving about him so far.

Never heard of Exum before. I've been off the board for a couple of weeks during this slow time. So, I googled a couple of vids. I am not quite getting it. He doesn't look that special to me. He is athletic and is fairly creative around the hoop. His jump shot is flat. I sure didn't see him handle the ball much or pass much.

Just my first impression.

It's the combination of skill and size I think. I agree he doesn't blow me away but people that have seen him play in person all think he's really good.

I am sorry I am so vague. That's a Chris Bosh neck if I have ever seen one. I would drop Wiggins height by an inch or two, just because its only his neck.

Anybody seen Elgin Cook? he's a soph at Oregon a JC transfer that played with the top ranked JC player in the country last year guard Chris jones who is at Louisville this year.

I've heard through the grapevine he could be really good, he's the son of Alvin Robertson and is apparently a similar player. 6'6", great athlete runner and jumper. Spotty shooter, needs to improve his handle but an absolute lock down defender.

Apparently Oregon thought they were getting a good kid but are now starting to think they got a real steal. He's apparently slated to start at the 3 for them this year unless the Houston transfer Young is eligible. But I've heard NBA scouts consider Cook the best pro prospect at Oregon and one of the top 3-4 pro prospects in the whole Pac 12.

But nobody seems to have actually seen him play it's all word of mouth I heard this from this guy stuff.

Listened to a piece yesterday afternoon with Gambo. He said NBA scouts watching practices say Wiggins isn't the best player on the floor right now on his own college team. NBA scouts say they are just not seeing all the hype with Wiggins. He is tremendously athletic but there are serious deficiencies in other parts of his game. They say he is not a consensus #1 pick at the moment.

I am not saying I agree with this, I am just reporting what Gambo's "sources" are feeding him. BTW, Gambo says he likes Randle more than Wiggins.

It is going to be an interesting year to watch college bball. I wonder if Wiggins could take a fall like Shabazz did.
