Yea, they don't make the exciting picks do they. Last year wasn't very exciting in Bucannon, but he turned out to be a decent pickup. So I hope I am saying this same thing about Humphries next year.
Sure hope you are right. It would be huge if this guy can come in and solidify the RT position.

But there were many other directions we could have gone.

Also we now have to rely on Cooper and Larsen/Shipley to man the interior of the line. Is that enough?

Sissy Boy should make a poll, will Humphries have more starts or games on IR?

from the video on az.com steve keim called dj humphries when steelers were on the clock,so i assume sahne ray was not in their board,and the trade between lions and broncos was laready completed,and they were pretty sure they were going to draft shane ray (broncos)

I wasn't enamored with anyone on the board.. I am sure I would feel different if we passed on dupree or ray for Humphries

Agreed, when I looked at who was left on the board it was primarily WRs which is deep in this draft and really nothing else. No way this team was going to touch Gregory. I have no problem with the pick. His weaknesses are coachable. Massie is an okay RT and can be upgraded.

My question is, if for some reason Veldheer went down who would you rather have step in at LT, Sowell or Humphries? Train Humphries to play RT and maybe you slide Massie to RG. Me thinks Cooper should be looking in the rear view mirror. I believe this coaching staff wants to be able to run the ball better to finish out games and Humphries can be a big part of that.

Many are pooping on this pick. It's not sexy and it's not what many wanted which is partly why I think so many are pooping on this pick because it's not who they would have picked. Some are really reaching when they start posting analysis of Levi and Humphries together to justify their distain over the pick. They are not the same guy. That's like comparing apples from two different trees and saying there the same because both trees are in the same orchard.

November 30th - http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/f4/im-plenty-ticked-at-one-thing-215516.html

Massie's inability to handle speed rushers off the edge has elevated finding a right tackle to the number one off season priority. Is there another team in the league that has to designate a guard and a running back to handle an edge rusher because their right tackle can't block them?
December 1st - http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/f4/looking-ahead-to-2015-draft-215539.html

1) Right Tackle
2) Rush Backer
3) Guard
April 29th - http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/f4/mayocks-final-amp-only-mock-draft-has-us-taking-221295-2.html

If Bobby Massie is playing right tackle, Carson Palmer won't be under center come December. That makes right tackle the Cardinals number one need in the draft, but they can pick up one that doesn't have tunnel vision in the second or third round.

I love this pick. Was hoping that he would drop to the Cardinals at #24.

Really thought that the Cardinals would go OT or CB with this pick if they stayed put. Especially if all of the good pass rushers were gone.

This pick was great value in the first round and adds depth to a very solid OL unit now. Humphries is still very young and hasn't reached his full potential yet. That is very exciting to me. He will spend the year competing with Massie at RT. I think he obviously becomes our starting RT once the coaches are comfortable with his knowledge of the offense. But at least with Massie around that gives a full year of learning if need be.

Also I noticed that listening to him on NFL radio during the interviews over the last couple of weeks, this kid is going to be a great in the locker room. He is a character and his teammates are going to love him.

I know this gets thrown around far too often, but any chance Cooper moves to C and Massie to RG?

Not sure if this has been posted from NFL.com:

"D.J. Humphries is the best left tackle in the draft. I'm a big fan, and he'll go higher than people think. I don't know if that means he goes in the early 20s or the late teens, but he's a good player. I think he'll be the second offensive lineman to go. He's got great feet, he's just 20 years old, and when he's been healthy he's played at a very high level. And he can actually play left tackle. A lot of these tackles are right tackles, but he can play on the left."

The good;

1. He's a Tackle, not a G/C worthy of 1st round

The Bad;

1. Could have had Ali Marpet 2/3 round

2. Still do not have a 1st round worthy DT DE/OLB

The Ugly;

1. Non glamour pick

Kent Somers talked about this in a video before the draft. It's buried in here somewhere:

http://www.azcentral.com/story/spor...orida-offensive-tackle-dj-humphries/26679799/

He had Cardinals going tackle. With this being the final year on Massie's contract, he's going to want to get paid next year. With Veldheer making $7 mil, Iupati making $8 mil, plus Cooper if he pans out, they couldn't afford another max OL contract. So getting a cheap yound guy made alot of sense. Basically the same thing as when Campbell was brought in to eventually replace Antonio Smith, who they knew was going to want too much money.

I was totally bummed when this pick was made. Like alot of you, I didn't see OT as a "need" so didn't really research it. As I read more and thought more about it, I'm fine with this pick.
It sounds like Massie was more a liability then we knew. They were often switching protection to his side and it was limiting playcalling. Who knows how much of an effect this had on our inability to run, but my guess is it was significant.
Hopefully this upgrade (at RT this season) will free up the offense and get the run game going. This will mean Carson can breath easier and hopefully stay healthy. It will also mean the defense can stay off the field longer. All pretty obvious statements but to me, if true, seem like an excellent plan to get this team to the next level.
Now add a RB in round 2 or 3, along with Iuptai and we add a whole other dimension to our offense and our ability to control the game. I don't like guessing at position changes but maybe Massie and Cooper can man the C and OG spots and get our 5 best offensive linemen on the field.
I wouldn't say I'm tasting koolaid yet, but at least it's not vinegar.

Info coming out is starting to shine up the pick.

With Massie contract renewal coming up and the talent this kid has it may just work out in the long run.

I slotted D.J. Humphries to the Browns' 19th-overall pick in my mock draft, so this is a slight bargain. I thought Arizona would take Eric Kendricks or a tall cornerback like Byron Jones, but Humphries makes sense as well. Right tackle Bobby Massie was the one responsible for Carson Palmer's injury against the Rams, so Humphries should provide an upgrade at right tackle. The Cardinals need to do everything in their power to make sure Palmer is protected. They can't have Bruce Arians debating between Ryan Lindley and Logan Thomas in a playoff matchup again.

Yeah, I know its a sign that we are not the Old Cardinals when we can actually make a FIRST ROUND pick with an eye on the future as much as the upcoming season. It's not like Levi Brown when we all knew that 1) We had to draft an OT and 2) they would have to start from day 1.

Progress, but I'm still not pumped over the pick.
