Why do I get the feeling sometimes that Keim just wants to be the smartest guy in the room? I, I don't get this draft.

Watched the whole thing

He looked like a man playing with high school kids. Played all over the line. Ran down backs. How many sacks did he have? I can see why the FO likes him.

The question is will it translate to the NFL? And why in this round?

Reminds me of a young Dockett.

I agree, but it looks like he is just using his strength and speed. He will need to develop some different moves.
When I watched those highlights I keep having flashbacks of the great Eric Swann!!! If this kid has the right mindset & works he looks the part no doubt.

I can see the cards adding 20-25 lbs of muscle on this kid & this might turn out to be a gem.

I had the same feeling... if he is just 80% of Swann, we have a force :)

I just have to laugh at all the people raving about how he's destroying small school competition. This means less than nothing at the next level. Destroying small school competition is the minimum requirement for a guy like this to get drafted or signed as an UDFA.

I was just as clueless as everyone else about the pick initially.

But I love the way Brentson Buckner was foaming at the mouth about him after working him out privately.

IF he lives up to BASK's hype, he'll be well-worth the 3 draft picks surrendered. And Cardinal fans will be very happy he's not wearing a San Francisco uniform. ;)

11 teams worked him out. He was on the radar of a number of teams in the 4th. But because fans and talking heads--who never have seen him--don't know anything about him, it's a bad pick.

I've got to give the scouting staff the benefit of the doubt on this. If it was a player that everyone knew about and clearly had issues with, it would be a different matter.

Keim mentions that "a little birdie" dropped him a line that the kid was about to be drafted.

He aggressively moves up in front of that team and takes him.

That team then calls Keim, congratulates him, and confirms that they were about to grab him.

All of that was confirmed during Keim's presser and it tells me one thing loud and clear. Our GM has stones. And attacks for the players that he wants. Personally, I love that about him, even if I have no idea who the heck this kid is.

hard worker high motor team captain?

Kid is a freakish athlete... ran a sub 4.9 forty! Hugh motor like you said. Buckner worked him out for over an hour and the kid never once took a break for water.
High character kid with a massive chip on his shoulder. Comes from nothing - literally... Some po-dunk town in Polk County Florida where he worked 2 jobs to support his family thru high school.

I think this kid has the potential to be something better than average in the NFL. I like the fact that the Cards staff and leadership look for these types of unknowns!

it will be interesting at a very minimum to see how he progresses -- but this is a size/speed/athleticism projection by Keim

they dont always work: witness one Rob Housler who had size and outstanding speed for his position, didnt have a deep football background and came from a small program.

Yet, even with the physical tools, coaching, experience -- it didnt work out

Though it didn't work for him because he can't catch the ball. I feel like physical talent would be more likely to translate for defensive lineman than a skill position like TE. Though I have absolutely no stats to back that up. ;)
