I really like the idea of going for the high potential long shots but I don't expect Sarver to allow it. I think we go all out to make the playoffs next season. If they aren't going to be patient, I just hope their idea of "all out" is to draft wisely (safely) and add a solid free agent. The worst thing we could do would be to cash in our draft picks now for a player that isn't going to take us further than borderline playoff team.

I am all for making solid draft choices. I am convinced that you get top level talent without the risk of the bottom falling out. Booker was a solid choice, not a swing for the fences choice. So was Steve Nash. Draft players on what you see, not on what you hope you will see. Even Amare was drafted on the basis of clear talent demonstrated in workouts.

Also, I consider highly what is between a player's ears. Does he have a good work ethic, solid character, emotional stability. Many top players fail because of personal issues. That's why KAT was such a no brainer over Okafor or in the end Booker over DeAngelo Russell. That is one of the things that makes Buddy Hield so intriguing.

I don't know enough about Hield to agree or disagree but I agree with everything else here. And if the background investigation and interview go well, I'd be fine with Buddy even though we have a clear need elsewhere. I'd prefer big over small but talent wins out.

Somewhere in the draft the Suns are likely to be looking for a PG. If Ulis is there when the Suns pick in the second round, he might be their choice.

Ulis was projected to go around 32 but today several boards have him around 19-20. Calapari says he's the best floor general he's ever coached, for what that's worth. I like his 3.5 assists per turnover and the fact that he's a good defender. With both he and Bledsoe on the team we could press opponents full court for a whole game, if we wanted to.

It would so nice to have a PG who can truly orchestrate an offense - without one we really have little idea how good the team is. According to what I've read he's very effective at running the pick and roll, despite his stature and he's very good in transition, too, so he'd be a good fit. I'd certainly take him at 28, if he lasted that late. In this draft if we had the third pick and Simmons and Ingram were gone, I wouldn't mind trading the 3rd pick for like 8 and 14 - which should find a taker.

I guess it is who is on the draft board with the Cleveland pick. We agree the Suns need a PG who can run an offense. The Suns have nothing to rely on behind Bledsoe. If the Suns selected Ulis with this pick I would not be upset, probably happy. I'm a big proponent of adding another PG.

However, there should be other PGs available in the second round and free agency. I'm not sure what the Suns' thinking will be. If the Suns keep their picks I would like to add a minimum of two center/PF types (maybe three), then add PG and SF. Free agency will have to answer one of these needs.

I agree with JC and you as well. Draft the best player(s) available. Suns don't have enough talent to be picky about what positions those players may play.
One nice thing about McD is that he has a history of drafting well. I have zero concerns about his picks in this draft.

They can probably add someone like Ish Smith if their just looking for a backup to Bledsoe who can run the offense some.

I hope they don't waste a top 3 pick on a backup. Suns fans endured too much this season to end up with just a backup.

If we're drafting a guard so early, it must mean both Knight and Bledsoe are being shipped. Not just one of them.

Ulis is 5'9 and not a very good 3pt shooter.

He is not a knockdown shooter but I think he's better than he showed this year. People forget he played quite a bit of games early in the year with an injury that basically had him playing one handed. Even if you're right handed, not being able to properly use you left hand impacts your shooting.

he got hurt right before the UCLA game, he was 2-12 1-5 from 3. Next 3 3-10, 3-11 4-12 overall 2-6 2-7 and 1-6 from 3. So he got hurt and had a 4 game stretch of 6-25 from 3.

he had bad games here and there after that but I think his 41% as a freshman was more indicative of what kind of shooter he really is.

Great player I love him. You don't use a really high pick on him because of his size but he's good enough to play in the NBA for years IMO.

I am thinking the Sun's should go big with their 1st pick.

If Simmons and Ingram are gone I would want Sabonis.

The Sun's can pick up another big with #2 Poeltl and use the last #1on a PG Barber

That would be one nightmare of a draft.

Sabonis is not worth a top 5 pick and he is a center and Poetl is a) not very good and b) we have no need for a pure center.

I'd rank both Zizic and Zubac over Poetl and maybe over Sabonis too.

The Suns need forwards, not centers.

Thon Maker at 13 s'eem's like a prepo'sterou's reach. I wouldn't be 'surpri'sed if he drop's out of the first round entirely. He i's tall and long... but he i's al'so weak and dumb. By the time he i's ready to contribute hi's rookie deal will be about to expire.

If he i's too den'se to get into a univer'sity then he 'should go to China or Europe for a few year's.

dumb? Based on what? As far as I know he stayed that extra year because of his brother and getting to the NBA this year instead of college is the smart play.

It is a reach but Chriss and Labissiere wont make it until #13. And then the alternatives dont look too promising either. Maker at least has tremendous upside and shows good all-around skills that can be developed.

You mean like D'angelo Russel dumb? Or Morri dumb? Or dumb like the kid from Sudan had a dream to play in the NBA one day and worked his ass off to get there?

Watch who you're calling dumb please.

He had just under a 4.0 GPA in high school by the way so you're totally off base.
