I really like the idea of going for the high potential long shots but I don't expect Sarver to allow it. I think we go all out to make the playoffs next season. If they aren't going to be patient, I just hope their idea of "all out" is to draft wisely (safely) and add a solid free agent. The worst thing we could do would be to cash in our draft picks now for a player that isn't going to take us further than borderline playoff team.
I am all for making solid draft choices. I am convinced that you get top level talent without the risk of the bottom falling out. Booker was a solid choice, not a swing for the fences choice. So was Steve Nash. Draft players on what you see, not on what you hope you will see. Even Amare was drafted on the basis of clear talent demonstrated in workouts.
Also, I consider highly what is between a player's ears. Does he have a good work ethic, solid character, emotional stability. Many top players fail because of personal issues. That's why KAT was such a no brainer over Okafor or in the end Booker over DeAngelo Russell. That is one of the things that makes Buddy Hield so intriguing.
