Eric Hosmer’s camp has continued pushing for a contract of more than 7 years, source says. [He is a young free agent at age 28.] The #Royals’ need to re-sign him (and capacity to pay him) increased with this week’s Brandon Moss trade. @MLBNetwork @MLB

Slowest market I can remember. Darvish, JD, Hosmer, Arrieta and Moustakas still unsigned and it's February.

Good, hopefully this becomes a trend and helps small & middle market teams stay competitive when agents like Boras can't hold teams hostage and big pocket owners aren't just willing to outbid everyone and raise the already ridiculous salaries of players. There needs to be a pay scale and salary cap in baseball, its time.

Why do you want to punish players? They are the only reasons we watch the game. You really think it will change anything to cap their earning abilities?
How is it punishing them? They will still make a lot of money. Do you see NBA & NFL players complaining? It’s overdue, agents like Boras are ruining the game because we as fans are the ones that end up suffering, we ultimately end up paying literally especially small market teams.

A salary cap punishes the players by limiting how much they can earn in a free market. Guys like Lebron and Brady aren't paid nearly half of what they are worth to their franchise or to the league. How does the fan end up paying?

Limiting them or giving them a reality check? Obviously no one feels JD is worth $200M dollars or the other big name guys.

Yeah LeBron and Brady are constantly complaining they aren’t getting their worth....pffft.
It’s called ticket and concession stand prices owners aren’t paying totally out if their pockets.

Yes, NBA and NFL player do complain, but their unions are so weak they can't do anything about it like baseball players can. Regardless, how paternal are you to determine "what is enough" for them? To curb their fair market value.

How do we ultimately pay? How is MLB different than NBA or NFL in parity? The Pats have been to the AFC championship 7 straight, Lebron James has been to the NBA Finals 7 straight. That doesn't happen in MLB.

The facts don't confirm your argument and you're punishing the talent and putting more money into ownership pockets to try and make it conform. Don't blame Goldy for Kendricks cheapness.

Singling out two players at the top hardly addresses all of the players in the league. The higher they go, the higher the marginal players go.

Limited? Ask all of the public school teachers in the country who is limited. They are performing a service far more important than entertainment by a bunch of jocks.

How about a system where the value of each ballplayer is determined by an unbiased board based on performance? Then they all get paid (with the first up-to-$200,000 per year in cash and the rest in Monopoly money for bragging rights).

The market determines concession and ticket prices, not the cost of the product on the field.

You don’t know about luxury tax, it’s cool. It’s not that owners are cheap, they just don’t want to reach luxury tax land which happens when you have multiple 9 figure contracts at the same time. Obviously big market team owners may not flinch at luxury tax but most small market teams can’t afford to.
The NFL & NBA players as a whole are not complaining, show me proof of that. Max level deals are still pretty big (Harden, Westbrook even Stafford in NFL aren’t crying).
You think, increased attendance doesn’t lead to raise in ticket prices? Market only determines that? Alright dude.

WTF are you talking about "I don't know luxury tax"?

You're right, all professional athletes want to work under NFL rules. "Alright dude".

Increased attendance comes from winning, not from payroll. "Right dude"?

Please, talk me through the logic that starts at "salary cap" and ends with, well whatever it is you're wanting (more parity in the league?, cheaper ticket and concessions? a pony?)

Former D-back Tony Clark, head of the MLB Players Association says MLB is threatening the integrity of the game with its slow pace of off-season free agent signings.

'Sorry, Tony, but I have to agree that salaries being paid to players are out of hand. Evidently the two sides are incapable of sitting down and working it out.

Former D-back J.D. Martinez is "fed up" with the Red Sox and could sit out the beginning of the season.

Hey, J.D., c'mon back to Phoenix at a fair price. We'll sign you in a heartbeat. Even if Hendrick does have to sell his baseball card collection. :)

Boras is the one killing the integrity of the game. "Hey, my client had three really good months on the job, he deserves 200,000,000.00 dollars right now."

Ya, even the Yankees aren’t willing to have a bunch of contracts like that. We’re seeing right now how that can kill a team for years.
