Bamba reminds me of Nerlens Noel. People are obsessed with his length but his play does not sniff the other guys being mentioned.

Compared to Noel Bamba is an offensive juggernaut. Noel had no jumper, no post-up moves. Not at all.

Bamba has a nice-looking jumper, post moves, semi-hooks and he can also drive.

And Bamba's wingspan is 7'9, Noel's 7'4.

I don't think they are in the same tier.

Really? I like the dunk but it's far from "easily" better than KJ's on Hakeem (which is my choice as best ever--not just Suns history). :)

Yeah. That Chambers dunk is not only ridiculous, but it always signals to me the start of an era, the Rising Suns.

That KJ dunk oddly enough doesn't do a lot for me. Mostly because it happened at the end of Game 4 against the Rockets, when we were already down 10 points with like 3 minutes left as we were in the process of blowing that 2-0 lead taken in Houston and it just felt like the series was already over. It's a great dunk/physical feat for sure, but emotionally it does nothing for me.

I'll admit, I don't remember a lot of the context of that dunk, but I do remember Hakeem trying hard to block it. So it looked like a normal basketball play, or abnormal, as the result of it was.

it definitely was a normal basketball play. I was just seeing red at that point so didn't really care. And to this day, all that play reminds of me is how badly we blew both of those Houston series.

I mean that’s how high chambers should be as he’s finishing his dunk not 3-4 feet away from the basket with a dudes CHIN impeding Huang progress!!! That’s just awesome. I gotta find that in poster form.

It just looked effortless when it happened. His head was at the rim height.

I actually think the Noel comparison is closer than the Camby comparison. Camby was a very good offensive player in college plus he was a good defender.

Bamba is more polished offensively but defensively he is similar to Noel.

Bamba not only has the wingspan, he has good quick hands. He is just so thin he gets pushed around.

As a freshman Camby was (probably) a lesser offensive player (10PPG) than Bamba (13PPG).

Even as a junior (20PPG) Camby did attempt 8 3P-s (and did hit none) in the whole season. Bamba already did 49 (and did hit 13).

Bamba is more polished offensively but defensively he is similar to Noel.

Again, I don't really see how we can compare Bamba to Noel (defensively) when Bamba has 4 inches on him at wingspan and even more at standing reach while being as mobile and explosive as Noel.

All in all, I can easily see Bamba becoming a taller and bigger version of Camby in his best years (DEN) when he was a defensive player of the year and a solid offensive player who was an excellent passer and mid-range shooter as well.

Since Bamba is taller and bigger it is not out of the question at all that he will be more than the best version of Camby.

I think that he is a really, really special talent. Definitely in the tier of Doncic and Ayton. In other words: if the Suns get a top3 pick, can't really go wrong with either one.

Not really impressed that Bamba has made 13 threes at a 26% rate. Also, it should be noted that Camby's ppg you compared came in way less playing time. Also, Camby could pass, Bamba has not shown any ability to that end. IMO Bamba is a case of people being a little too worked up on the measurables.

Might he be a special talent? Yeah, but I think it is more likely we're looking at the next Bismack Biyombo than the next Camby.

I think people forget how much of a SUPER athlete Camby was. Dude was a freak at 7'1 and ran like a gazelle. Singlehandedly carried UMASS to a 31-1 record and Final Four.

7'1" athletic monster, dragging his team around... also got tied up in a scandal with money and agents... maybe we're comparing Camby to the wrong kid!

The Stepien has moved Ayton way down.

Tier 1. Doncic
Tier 2. Trae Young
Tier 3. Jackson, Porter, Ayton (in that order)
Tier 4. Bagley, Bridges, Bamba (in that order) with more following.

Yikes.

Marcus camby could barely dribble a ball in the nba... bamba has WAY more long term offensive potential.

That order doesn’t compute in my brain.
