Okay, to sum up trophies of Luka in this season so far:
- Eurobasket champion
- Eurobasket all-tournament team
- Euroleague champion
- Euroleague all-tournament team
- Euroleague rising star
- Euroleague MVP
- Euroleague F4 MVP
- Spanish league MVP of regular season

Next: Spanish league

Real Madrid was also in the Spanish cup finals, but they lost against Barcelona (however, they won it last year).

So, sounds like a man for trophies, isn't he? ;) If Suns pick him, the future is bright for franchise.

EDIT: And he is almost in every category the youngest player ever. So, stop comparing him with any other European guy.

Apparently a ton of teams sent scouts over to watch Doncic, and others, so any idea that he and his agent will be able to concoct some plan to get him to fall to a preferred destination that Phoenix could trade up to is highly unlikely. I think most realized that already though.

Is it possible to respect the heck out of his accomplishments yet still not drool over him as a prospect?

If we didn't have Jackson, or Jackson not turned it on like he did last year, then I'd have a lot more interest in Doncic but as is, he's a great European prospect who could be a fantastic wing in the NBA someday. The Suns are loaded with quality wings, young ones at that, so I have very little interest in Doncic being drafted by us.

It is the first time ever a player under 25 has received the Euroleague MVP (heard it on a newscast, just repeating what I heard).

He has all these awards. But EVERY TIME an accomplishment of his is mentioned, his age is mentioned along with it. I understand that his age is a factor. But I am somewhat concerned that it is THE factor. If he was 21, would he be getting the same attention? Maybe he would.

I want to be objective here with Luka. I do think he probably the consensus #2 player in the draft, but may not be drafted until later because of manipulation by his agent. But the discussion out there will continue to be, until draft day, whether he should be the #1 pick or not. I know this board is almost a consensus for Ayton, but most other boards are about even and flop from day to day depending on what news comes out that day.

Unlike Euros in the past, there is more known about Doncic than any other player in this draft. He just has a much larger body of work to examine. All the other top candidates have 30 games or so to look at, and many of those are against patsy NCAA teams early in the year. Other than that its AAU games shot on cell phones and high school games. So if there is an unknown factor, its on the USA side not the Euro side. Duffy said that he is a mystery man, but there is no mystery about him. Even message board junkies like us can get more video on Doncic than the other players. So, we ought not be enthralled with some sort of mystique. He is what he is on video.

Anyway. Its going to be a continuing discussion until the draft. At least here, I don't get my head bit off for suggesting Ayton over Doncic.

Looking back, I had questions about Tatum's explosiveness in the last draft. Sometimes these players are scouted so much we only see the warts. This may be the case with Doncic.

Same with Ayton. I think they are both going to be great players.

I liked Tatum more than Jackson last year. Sometimes people assume that players skills will get better and that athleticism 100% trumps skill.

So true. Tatum has turned out to be a fantastic player.

Very interesting. Here's the source article, from Jonathan Givony:

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...doncic-helps-real-madrid-win-euroleague-title

Doncic's next destination was a focal point on many a conversation over the course of the weekend. It still remains to be seen which NBA team will draft him. The growing consensus among NBA decision-makers in attendance at Stark Arena in Belgrade is that the teams drafting behind the Phoenix Suns at No. 1, the Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks are likely to pass on European prodigy in favor of American frontcourt players. The question remains whether a team will trade up into the top three to snag Doncic, or if he will fall to the No. 4 (Memphis) or even the No. 5 pick (Dallas) after being heavily scouted in the Euroleague playoffs against Panathinaikos and mostly struggling.

Man its a long time until the draft. This story will be a distant memory by then. Things change so much from day to day. This could happen, but it is way way to early to tell.

For sure, but it's certainly worth the read given the general credibility of the author.
